We have many Pichlerrad giraffes in our club, but since the switch from the 170mm giaffe cranks to the 75mm unicycle cranks right in the middle of our show routine is fairly odd, I’m looking for an alternative crank set. Also, the original configuration has a major design flaw: both sprockets come with 24 teeth, meaning you get pretty uneven wear. In the idle position, the chain is now sloppy as hell, but if you pedal 90° further, it is tensioned almost to the breaking point. Both sprockets are welded, though.
So I’m looking for some square taper crank set in the 125-mm-range with a sprocket of maybe 23 or 25 teeth that will also match the chain line. Any suggestions?
While I do not have any specific solution for you, I would suggest to consider a wider range of crank lengths and sprocket sizes. Both Nimbus Club and Nimbus Performance use 32/28 gearing, and it works just fine. It might require adding / removing some chain links, but it should not be expensive as you can cannibalize one chain for many unicycles.
Nimbus Performance and 6’ Savage unicycles use 140mm crank arms.
