Can you post a picture? I think this belongs in the unicycling forum.
Welcome Ben
Either your cranks are bent or your hub spindle is twisted, lets hope it is the cranks.
If the unicycle was new you should probably just return it as defective and we can help you choose a better unicycle to learn on.
Don’t be afraid to post unicycling related stuff in the Rec.Sport.Unicycling section of the forum, that is where all the serious people hang out and you are more likely to get helpful answers.
What kind of cranks? If they’re square taper (square ends on the axle), they really should line up. If the unicycle isn’t new, the hub might have a twist in it. This might mean it’s about to break, but it also might just be poor manufacture.
If they’re cottered cranks (old uni, cotter pins in the cranks), it probably means the pins are both pointed the same way. When one is head-up, the other one should be head-down.
If it’s a splined axle, the cranks might be off by a spline or two.
