Cotterless nut/insex

So in these days there are cotterless hubs with insex bolt? How is the compatibility with the system using a nut? Same crank different hub? Or both different or even both same?

These days almost all square taper hubs take an M8x1 screw that either requires a socket spanner or an Allen key to undo. These are interchangeable and I’ve been slowly changing most of mine over to the Allen screws to make things easier.

Old hubs had threads formed right on the ends of the axle for a nut to be threaded onto, but that’s not common to see now.
