Dude, isn’t Wheel Walking harder than SIB?
I wouldnt say so, they are both very easy but i would say the hardest is SIB
Tyler claims that Wheel Walking is an Advanced trick, I disagree, What do you guys think?
Seat In Back is a level 4 skill. Wheel walking is a level 5 skill. But the levels aren’t good for comparing the relative difficulty. The Standard Skill scores are better for ranking skills in order of difficulty (but still not ideal for that task).
For standard skills the scores are:
SIB with seat against body: 2.3
SIB: 2.5
SIB in a circle: 2.7
SIB in a figure 8: 3.0
WW: 3.5
WW in a circle: 3.7
WW in a figure 8: 4.0
Wheel walking takes a lot more time and dedication to learn than riding SIB. That makes it more of an advanced skill. Wheel walking is also the skill that separates the casual freestyle riders from the more serious freestyle riders.
Wheel walking is way more cool than SIB.
i could ride SIB like rite after i lernd to ride and now like 5 mounths later i still cant WW. WW is alot harder
ah back to the old tyler and total convos
I think seat in back is tons easier than wheelwalking, I could do seat in back perfectly well with about five minutes of practice. wheel walking took me about a week to get anywhere.
This really isn’t a nice thing to say to someone who’s just learnt the skills is it Evan? I would have thought this would be obvious.
Andrew
difficulty
i’m a level-4 rider of 2.5 months, and i find seat in back WAY easier than wheel walking (which i haven’t tried too much but it’s really hard) and seat in front is really simple
that’s my 2 cents
o yeah, thx for stickin up for him andrew, just because sum1’s ridden for years doesn’t mean he can dis newer riders for not being as good, i mean, it’s expected that you improve w/ guess what! TIME!
lol
Those are some nice pics, and yes wheel walking is harder to learn than SIB, and a lot more impressive. SIB wheel walking is the really hard one though.
I think that although wheel walking is really hard to learn, it’s still way to easy to be a “dividing” skill, between the serious and casual freestylers. Even gliding won’t work; a lot of riders who do mostly trials, and certainly would not qualify as serious freestylers can glide. I think something like coasting or backward wheel walk or seat drag would be a much better divider, but I really don’t think such a divider is useful or necessary.
Also, someone can be a serious freestyler without being able to wheel walk; it’s not about what you can do, it’s about how much you practice. If you are a really slow learner, but still put lots of effort into learning new skills, you are a serious freestyler, no matter what your level.
As to whether wheel walking is an advanced skill, it depends on how you look at it. From Tyler’s point of view, it’s advanced since it is (I think it is, sorry if I’m wrong) one of the most advanced skills he can do. From my point of view, it’s pretty much basic, whereas coasting and sideways wheel walk are the very advanced skills. For someone like Ryan Woessner, I bet coasting and sideways wheel walk are pretty basic, whereas “advanced” is something like backward side ride. My point is that most of us consider the hardest skills we can do to be advanced, regardless of their actual difficulty. If you want to find a way of absolutely determining what is advanced, you should look at the standard skills list, and make a certain number, perhaps 3.0, perhaps 5.0 the bottom line for “advanced” skills.
Keep up the good work, Tyler. It’s nice to see other people out there working on freestyle skills.
i can’t do any of those moves, save one footing. which seriously, was pretty easy to learn. just gotta put in the time. any cut off between “serious” and “casual” is going to be arbitrary and exclusionary. try not to pick one.
You’re putting too much emphasis on the “advanced” part and “serious” part. To a level 10 rider wheel walking would be a basic foundation skill. But in the whole scheme of things it is a lot more than your basic skills like one foot riding and such. If you want to cover the whole range then you can call it an intermediate skill.
I’ve always viewed wheel walking as the primary dividing skill that separates the casual freestyle riders from the more serious freestyle riders. Even in muni and trials it’s a dividing skill. The better riders can all wheel walk.
Since this is the J.C. forum…
I was actually noticing the house (since that’s what I do for a living now). Very nice place, Tyler. Do you own it? What are you charging your parents for rent?
The house has a great rural look even though you have close neighbors. Must be a nice place to live. We’ve only been to the Pacific Northwest once and found it extremely beautiful. It’s akin to our original home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Someday, we’d like to return for a visit.
Maybe that’s a neat subject for another gallery, one of photos of our homes. Might be fun…
