They are crazy good but I think ill stick with piano and the few chords I know on the guitar
I remember learning this a few years ago. Its a good song. =p
Do those people posting the videos know anything about recording levels? Both clips clip. Both are recorded way too loud.
NM One of the volume settings on my computer had gotten bumped up way higher than it was supposed to be. Everything’s normal(alized) now.
I hate it when that happens. Too many volume controls (level controls) spoils the broth.
coincidence
haha guess what i was listening to when i clicked the link? yup it was classical gas, but the version i was listening to was played by Yngwie Malmsteen, does anyone know who wrote that piece? its awesome.
MAson Williams wrote it and performed it. It was recorded in 1967. Here’s a great website with everything you always wanted to know about that song: Classical Gas Home Page
I have the album (CD) Classical Gas by Mason Williams & Mannheim Steamroller. First track is of course Classical Gas.
You got me to pull the CD out and listen to it for the first time in a long time. I feel dirty. The song Classical Gas is good to listen to, but listening to the entire album just feels like listening to muzak. It’s like listening to music created at the control board in a studio. It doesn’t sound natural.
Oh well. As soon as the Classical Gas album is over I’ll put in Led Zepplin Zofo to clean the ears.
I had my horizons widened on what constitutes a guitar solo in the guitar solo thread, but easy or not I still say:
I can’t believe Classical Gas didn’t make that top 100 list.
CG is one of those songs that if it comes on the car radio, and it’s still playing when I reach my destination, I’ll wait until the song is over before I get out of the car.
Yeah. That first guy isn’t bad, considering his age.
I’ll NEVER again look at ukes the way I used to! Frickin amazing!
Virtuoso playing wasted on an inferior instrument. His playing would sound so much better on a real guitar. Something where the notes can sustain and have more dynamics and tone. But then the novelty would be gone and he’d be just another great guitar player instead of the word’s best ukulele player.
Very interesting as a novelty act, but I would not want to listen to an entire CD of his playing.
-1
That was insulting.
It’s also true.
The ukulele sucks as a quality musical instrument. It’s the equivalent of using kitchen implements for drums. The playing is virtuoso but it’s still a ukulele.
I’d be stuffing cotton in my ears if I had to listen to an entire CD of his ukulele music. That’s nothing against him as a musician. It’s all about the ukulele.
For one or two songs it is really neat and interesting to listen to. I was amazed by his playing in that video. But beyond that the novelty quickly wears off.
I guess I can take it that you dont like anything from ‘Stomp’ then, huh?
That’s ok though, you can continue on thinking of it as a novelty act, and not a quality instrument, and ill continue to think of it in pretty much the exact opposite of you.
John Childs I would stuff cotton in my ears if I had to listen to a whole CD of your pointless whining.
Kind of like "all these great unicyclists are wasting their talent on an inferior mode of transport. Their skills would be visibly cleaner and neater if they all would just ride bikes. But then the novelty would be gone and they’d all just be great bike riders.
Unicycles are interesting as a novelty act, but I wouldn’t want to watch them for very long."
That’s what you sound like. Pick up a uke and give a chance - maybe you’ll change your tune.
Im gonna start learning that song. Thanks for the link!
