computer program

hey does anyone know a good program to download where i can take a video and make the quality better? Preferabley a free program.

It’s called Tripod 1.0

But you have to order it online or buy it at a store… :stuck_out_tongue:

:frowning: ok maybe i can get it illegally, i mean…

You can’t use software to make a video look better, other than possibly adjusting the brightness. Real life isn’t like TV, where 3 big blocks can suddenly become 300 clearly defined dots.

If you want higher quality video, either up the video quality on your camera (if the option is there) or get a nicer camera (pricey!!!)

Sorry that the amazing world of software can’t lend you a hand!

What do you mean by making the quality of a video better?

There are some post processing things that you can do to make the video quality better. But there are also some things that you can’t do and some things that you can do.

Video processing isn’t magic so you can’t make better quality pixels out of information that is not already there in the video. For example you cannot fix the focus of a video after the fact and you cannot effectively increase the resolution of a video after the fact.

Things that you can do are adjust the color balance, increase or decrease the brightness, crop the video frame, deinterlace the video, rotate the video, add a sharpness filter, filter out some of the noise in the video, etc. That kind of post processing takes CPU time to do. The video editing program has to process each and every frame in the video make the adjustments. For a short video the processing time might not be too bad, but for longer videos the processing can take overnight or longer.

Anyways, two freeware programs that can do some post processing on video are VirtualDub and TMPGEnc. Both programs have a learning curve and require some knowledge about video formats and how they’re represented on the computer. There are guides on the 'net that describe basic how-tos on how to use them to do basic tasks. If that’s the type of program that you are looking for I can dig around to find some of the better introductory guides.

Let us know what it is that you want to do with the video to make it better and you’ll get better help.

ok here is what im looking for. I have some videos that i downloaded on my computer and im looking for a program to make the resolution better, because the videos are really small and hard to see. I want to put some videos together and put them on a DVD for someone but they would look horrible on a full screen tv.

You can do that, but don’t expect miracles. You can’t increase the resolution of an image and end up with more information or detail than there was in the original image.

You can use the two tools I mentioned to increase the resolution to something that the DVD authoring program will accept. Many DVD authoring programs will also increase the resolution for you if necessary to make the video NTSC compliant.

Try it. See what the results are like. And don’t expect miracles.

Small videos can look OK on a TV as long as the video is at a high enough bitrate that the video isn’t blocky or overly compressed. 352x240 interlaced is the resolution used by Video CD (VCD) and by standard VHS. It looks good enough on a TV. So you don’t need high resolution video to play on a TV. The trick is to have video that is not overly compressed.
