I just purchased a very worn Columbia Unicycle on Ebay. Very similar to the one I rode as a kid in the late 60’s. Even the same color, purple. I bought a new unicycle on Ebay a couple of years ago. Chrome frame, cheap bearings, Chinese I think. Junk.
The Columbia was one of the best, In my opinion. The bearing caps were secured with socket heat cap screws, solid frame, although a bit heavy and nice heavy crank pedals.
My original Columbia was purchased in Key Port New Jersey. It came with a Ten Speed seat so I learned holding my seat at the back to keep is from slipping out from underneath me.
My mother gave my original unicycle to my sister for her kids as it was hanging in the garage and she thought I was no longer interested. I loved my unicycle but at the time I was in love with something better to ride.
Now that I have my first love back, does any one out there have detailed photos of the various graphics that were applied to these? There are some remaining on the frame but the neck is quite obscure.
I had one as a kid in the late 60s also. Can you post a picture?
I’ll try.
I’ll try. New to this so bear with me…
Here are two shots of the only sticker on Lanaboos’ Columbia unicycle. Placed on the front of the frame neck as a head badge.
I took a couple shots of my Columbia. The head badge came the way you see it, with half missing. Then it has those decorations on the fork legs.
The Columbia was a really nice, solid frame; an Ashtabula fork, made in Ohio, and what appear to be machined main cap bearing holders secured with allen screws, just like many of today’s top unicycles.
