'Cokerhead Squad' at Unicon X

Hi,

I’ve become quite addicted to the Coker and just can’t wait to get on it.
I’m trying to put a team opf Cokerheads together to do a group performance
at Unicon X.

I know the Roger and Sarah form the UK are bringing their Cokers along. I am
too. Anyone else? Freestyle on the Cokers should be real impressive and cool.

Sarah and Roger, are you interested?

They probably have a policy about this because air pressure in the plane is a
lot lower than on the ground. There is risk of a highly inflated tire popping
(probably more common for road bikes), and that sound, if occuring when the
plane is in flight, could be enough to force it to turn around? It sure would
scare me if it happened in a compartment under my seat!

I usually let the air out because I’m stuffing the wheels in bags and it gives
me more room to do so. But leave the tires on, to protect your rims.

Stay on top, John Foss, the Uni-Cyclone (packing up 3 or 4 unis tonight…)

Jack,

Yep. lets have a go it sounds fun to me. Gilby and me did a little routine
during the shows on the MN ride. It was nothing flash (partly we were rather
knackered after a day of riding and also it is hard to any thing but zoom
around) but is was fun. With Gilby’s help to start I even did a bit of wheel
walking, but I can not recover my feet.

Roger

I’m somewhat interested…was planning to bring only my Telford for simplicity
while traveling. How do you pack that huge wheel?

I don’t, i send it onto the plane naked. Pedals removed , and maybe the cranks
too with the axle ends padded and taped. I’ll let out the air from the tire and
when I get to china will be rotating the tire anyway, as it has developed a bald
spot. My first Coker travelled OK like this, hopefully this one will too.

So at this point the ‘Cokerhead Squad’ has four members:

  1. Roger
  2. Sarah
  3. Nathan
  4. Jack

Anybody else care to join? We should start thinking about the routine and music.

Re: ‘Cokerhead Squad’ at Unicon X

I am taking mine in a bike bag with 2 other unicycles (both CF’s). I know that
they fit really well because this is what I did last summer for the MN ride.

I’ve been taking my 24" all over the world naked for the last 20 years with
little or no trouble. And I don’t let the air out unless they give me a real
hard time,

I wonder – it is really necessary to take the air out of the Coker? Mine is
blown up real hard, and it’s a pain to blow it upo again. Does anyone think it
is actually dangerous to out it on the plane blown up hard? I certainly don’t
want the tube to burst.

When ever I’ve put a uni on the plane with air in the tire ( 15 uni trips in two
years!) it comes back to me at the other end with no air in the tire because
someone else has decided to flatten the tire for me. So I now do it myself that
way I know its been let out rather than punctured and hopefully the small air
presure I do leave in will still be there at the other end. It doen’t matter how
often you explain the science to the guy on oversize check in, the baggage
handlers haven’t heard you and they have been told tires should be deflated.

Re: ‘Cokerhead Squad’ at Unicon X

It’s not like you can get a ton of pressure change in an airplane, anyway. If
you went all the way to outer space you’d only effectively increase the
pressure inside the tire by 14.7 psi. And that’s if you started at sea level.

Too bad. So will there only be three Cokers (Roger, Sarah, and I ) at Unicon X?
