coker troubles

I tryed my coker today and no matter how hard i tred i couldnt do it:(

do you guys have any tips??

I take it you have never ridden a Coker before. I also take it that you can ride a 24" until the cows come home. If so, block the back of the Coker wheel against a curb or something and have one or two people help you get started rolling. Cokers feel weird at first. They want to go fast to be stable. As soon as you feel OK let go of your helpers and ride away. Try to do long, sweeping turns at first. Keep your weight on the seat, like always.

Ah Evan you got your cast off eh…?

My name is Evan, and yes i did get the cast off but the doc says no unicycling for about 4 months, laughs but i cant wait that long

An awkward fall from up high on a coker could redamage the leg pretty badly. Be careful.

Yeah i know.

yeah dude id chill out for a few weeks… good luck

hey evan stop trying:D

I can’t wheel walk, I can’t one foot, I can barely ride backwards… but I mounted and rode away on my Coker the first attempt.:stuck_out_tongue:

I have had times since though that it has taken 2-3 attempts to mount and ride.

That sounds just like me when I took my maiden Coker ride.
Some things to consider:

Coker doesn’t like to go too slow. Coker doesn’t want to turn quickly. Coker doesn’t want to stop quickly.

In time, with practice, one can zip around, twisting and turning, stopping and starting. But not in the early stages.

Don’t expect to hop on and then be riding 5 mph in one revolution. Sloooooooowly build speed. Sloooooooooowly reduce speed.

Up your comfortable casual cruising speed (CCCS). I’ll define the CCCS as the speed that you ride along without thinking much about it. Not too fast or too slow. Just be-bopping along, weight heavy in seat, almost not feeling your legs/feet working at it. You’re not really riding differently, the machine just goes faster. The first few times on a Coker you’ll think you’re going 100 mph at the edge of catastrophe. (Relax, you’re probably only going 8 or 9 mph and you could still run out of a UPD)

Whereas you’re CCCS on a 24 might be that of a brisk walk, your CCCS on the Coker would be that of a healthy jogger.

Think of it as riding an oil tanker, not a ski boat. An oil tanker turns with a 5 mile radius. An oil tanker takes 3 miles to stop. At first, the Coker is a big lumbering giant. If you want to stop at the corner, begin slowing about 50 yards back, gently applying “the brakes”.

Later, you’ll have lots of control. But that’s later.

How about this: Your Coker is a jet, and your 24" is a biplane. The biplane can turn around in almost no space at all, but doesn’t go very fast. The jet goes a lot faster, at the loss of maneuverability. (this is the analogy I usually give to describe the difference between riding a bike and riding a unicycle)

Most of the analogy is right on. Usefull to think that way.

But a jet can go from 0 mph to 700 mph in no time flat. A Coker (for a beginner) must slowly increase in speed (like an oil tanker).

However, like the jet pilot, if the Coker rider tries to turn too fast, he/she could black out.

So did you mount her yet?

When I’m on the Coker I think of the old country song “Give Me Forty Acres”

Give Me 40 Acres

He was headin’ into Boston in a big long diesel truck
It was his first trip to Boston he was having lots of luck
He was going the wrong direction down a one way street in town
And this is what he said when the police chased him down,

Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around,
Give me 40 acres, it's the easiest way that i've found,
Some guys can turn it on a dime or turn it right downtown,
But i need 40 acres to turn this rig around.

When he finally found where to unload he had a dreadful shock
His trailer pointed toward the road and his cab right to the dock
And as he looked around him through tears he made this sound,
Oh give me 40 acres and I’ll turn this rig around,

When he finally got unloaded he was glad to leave the town
He was very, very happy going back to alabam, (to be Alabama bound)
When up ahead he saw a sign said you are northward bound
He said give me 40 acres and I’ll turn this rig around,

He was driving down the right lane when ahead he saw a sign
And he had to made a left turn but he could not get in line
And the tears were streaming down his cheeks and they all heard him yell
Give me 40 sticks of dynamite and I’ll blow this rig to____
