coker the big un or nimbus nightrider?

any opinions as to which is better? coker the big one or nimbus nightrider (cotterless)

I’ve had the coker big one (when it first came out) and have tried the nimbus. I sold the coker less than a month after I got it. I guess I just preferred my current radial as it has served me well for years and held up great. But I would say it’s really personal prefs, but I would go with the KH 36er, which will be my next one.

6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. I like my nightrider pro : ) the nightrider has 36 spokes, the coker has 48. The coker frame is much lighter than the nightrider, but to be honest you can’t really tell all that much. I got the nightrider so I could have isis cranks and run double hole cranks, and have a machined rim for later if I want. I like the simple look of the coker though.

either way, I can say I don’t really like the flex of the T7 bar, but it’s served me well so far. I’m getting an upgrade soon.

I would probably go with the KH 36" too since it is compatible with the Schlumpf hub. Definitely get the KH T bar rather than the T-7 if you can.

If I were buying one now it would definitely be the KH. My old Coker has a 36-spoke wheel, but my newer one has the heavier 48-spoke one. Both have fine frames. The Nightrider frame can be a problem with brakes, as it flexes side-to-side a lot. When I rode Nathan Hoover’s KH 36 (Schlumpf) I was surprised at how solid and responsive it felt. And light!

thanks guys. apparently, none of them are superior to the kh 36

I’ll be looking to getting one in the near future or so.

hey, but will the aluminum frame snap or bend easily?

No.

Not the KH frame, which is the same high grade aluminum used in all the KH unis; trials, MUni, 26er, 29er.

I just started riding my Nimbus Nightrider. With same length cranks, it impresses as having a smoother, faster, easier ride than my The Big One Coker with button tire, which I’ve been riding for years.

Do other people have this experience in comparing the two rides?

By comparison, it feels like The Big One has some source of drag.

Billy! You just made a post about unicycling! What’s gotten into you?

One advantage of the Nimbus is that you can lock the frame and the wheel:

I think it’s the best production frame out there for various reasons, including
-Very Stiff- you’ll notice less brake rub
-42mm bearing diameter- for most ISIS hubs out there
-Can take brakes
-Seat-post diameter means you can use various bike seatposts

The only downside to the KH frame is that everybody has one. And it’s only available in Kris Holm Blue, but you can always get it repainted.

You can get a nicer frame- like a 36" Triton- but then you have to pay a lot more for it.

UPDs seem different too.

They seem FASTER on the Nimbus.

Is anyone else able to compare?

I can’t compare the tyres or frames, but I swapped the wheel on my 36er some time ago from a steel rim and 12 gauge spokes to a Nimbus Stealth Pro rim with 14ga spokes (keeping the old frame and TA tyre) and it made an enormous difference to the feel of the ride - far more than I was expecting. Presumably mostly down to the saving in rotating weight.

People say the Nightrider tyre performs/feels better than either the TA or the Coker button, but I’ve never ridden a 36er with anything other than a TA so I can’t give any opinion on that.

natural KH

you can now get the KH frame in “natural” color from UDC

I have the coker big one and am very happy. NO complaints here. The coker website sells the unicycle for $439 which is hard to beat.

i beat that. $90 at garage sale.

The new coker is better than the one you got, you still got a good deal though.

There is now a competitor to the Kris Holm frames… when it comes to weight. EBunicycles.com makes a custom Carbon frame in almost every size (20,24,26,29,36). They claim it is almost just as strong as a normal KH. You don’t have to worry about drops or falls because they are made for trials. Apparently you can even make your 36’er weigh around 1,500 grams with there frame.
