Coker spoke upgrade?

Has anyone checked into getting some custom (stainless) spokes made for a Coker? I really don’t want to build a new wheel with the existing spokes because they turn black within a few months. I got a quote for $800 US for a minimum order of 1000 spokes thru a LBS. Would they have to be as thick as the stock ones? Any comments?

Dude, go all the way -and save 3 lbs.: Titanium. About 4$+ per spoke…

I’d love to be able to get better spokes for the Coker wheel. I’m definitely interested if you can get them soonish. I’ve got an Airfoil rim that’s waiting new spokes and a new hub. I’d like to get it built up sometime soon.

What about unicycle.com? I’m sure they could easily sell 1000 Coker spokes. The hard part is finding someone who can cut and thread spokes that are that long. The easy part will be selling them.

I would order 1008 spokes, that way you don’t end up with any extra.
I think that’s 28 wheels built or so.

You want a few extra. Spokes break. It’s best to be prepared especially if you have custom one-off spokes. I’d likely order 40 for myself just so I have 4 extra to be able to replace a broken spoke. Just in case.

Re: Coker spoke upgrade?

Tom Miller at The Unicycle Factory has 19 1/2" stainless spokes that he
can custom cut and thread. They are about 1.00 each or 2.00 cut and
threaded.
