i went on cokercycles.com to get a 36 wheelset and it was only $118. then i looked at the shipping which is $65! you could get a freaking $2.79 rim strip and still have to pay $65 cause its flat rate shipping! i mean thats ridiculous!
thats just the way it goes with 36s. my first 36, before udc had free shipping on orders over $300, was $80 for shipping. its a huge box.
Wow! Coker is telling us they REALLY doesn’t want to ship out anything other than whole unicycles, and maybe wheels. Though ‘rim strip’ doesn’t seem to be available on their site, I ordered a Coker saddle, and the “flat rate” shipping was $65. THEN I went back and added a $2 allen wrench. This bumped up the shipping to $130. Really? So then I added another $2 wrench, and sure enough, shipping is now $195. This must be a mistake! So I put in some mailing information as if I were going to make the purchase. Still $195 to ship a seat and two wrenches to my house. Clearly their site is broken.
$65 is reasonable for shipping their unicycles because, as DSchmitt says, they’re huge. The packing is perhaps better than for any other unicycle on the market. But I believe the box is larger than the UPS limit, which means it has to travel by freight. And apparently, Coker are not interested in shipping accessories, unless they can put them in the box with whole cycles or wheels. Either that or the site is broken.
Being a fan of the Coker brand, I will drop them an email and make sure they are aware of this little problem…
rimstrip is on their site its under accessories the second page down
you should just make your own rim strip anyway. on my old 36er i just stretched an old 700c roadbike tube around it and it works great. lots of other stuff you can use too.
They used to have unbelievable shipping prices. I’ve ordered from them a few times and couldn’t believe how cheap the shipping was. I thought they must have a steep discount from shipping all of those retro car tires. It used to be $7 to ship the wheelset.
The Coker website shipping calculator has been updated. For me it is showing $10.18 to ship a wheel.
C’mon now…
You might not agree with their pricing, but that’s no reason to accuse them of using drugs.
I received a reply from Cameron Coker on December 10. He said they were in a wave of changes with the site and “I will make sure that the shipping is included”. This makes me think he didn’t realize what the site was doing, but good to see they’ve gotten it fixed!
