Last night I finished work a little earler than expected. Paul was off playing cricket 12 miles away and I had nothing urgent to do at home, so I went for a little coker ride.
Nothing odd about that expect that for one reason and another I havn’t actully riden my coker for a year or more, so this was the first ride on the new rim. I decided to head for the cricket ground to meet Paul at the end of the game and get a lift home.
It felt a bit odd to be back on the coker at first, the saddle seemed high, my leg armour was rubbing on the tyre and the hill down from our house semmed rather steep. After about 2 miles I started to get warmed up and settled down. The first few miles were on a main road but at 8pm there was not much traffic, once I was clear of Exeter I headed in the back lanes and the second 2/3 of the ride I was bowling along high sided narrow Devon lanes. Its rolling hills between Exeter and my desination at Clyst Hydon, so I was constantly goig up or down. The sun was shining the birds twittering and the tractors all slowed down to pass me.
I got the cricket ground 1hour and 5 minutes after leaving home, not to bad for 12 miles with one or two map checking stops. Paul was surprised to see me, the rest of the team were suprised to see such a BIG unicycle.
I had almost forgoten how much fun the coker is to ride with so long away from it. Reminded now I think I’ll be cokering again a few times this summer.
