coker flats -- how many co2 cartridges?

I’m putting together a flat pack for my coker – I’ve got a patch kit,
spare tube, and was about to get one of those pumps that can use co2
cartridges. Has anyone used these? How many cartridges do you expect it
would take to inflate a new innertube?

A guy at the bike store guessed 4. An expensive proposal. I was
disappointed to discover that those CO2 cartridges I had for soda water
bottles just don’t happen to fit my CO2 pump. Instead, I have to find
another pump or get lots of those pricy cartridges. David Stone

I used a 12 gram cartridge once on my Coker-after I had hand pumped it
with a mini pump(enough to get the tire seated). It gave me about 30 psi,
which got me home. Now I carry (2) 16 gram cartridges-I’m not sure if it’s
enough to get the pressure up the way I’d like, but I’m sure even one of
them would get me home. I’ve carried a tube in the past, but I’ve never
had a blowout yet, so maybe you could skip the spare tube unless you ride
with very high pressure and/or run over lots of junk on your roads/trails.
Cokers don’t get many flats though. -Mark

The add’l innertube would be a bit heavy to lug about, so a super patch
kit would be my preference, tho I haven’t had the misfortune of having
a flat yet.

I found recently that I’d be riding for hundreds of miles on less than
30psi – what an improvement since I gave it another 15psi. But if some
manual pumping followed by just one cartridge can get you up to about 30,
that’s great. Now I’ll definitely carry along my cartridge (I just never
realized how practical it really is). - David

I’ve never carried any air pumps or tire patch kits with me when I go, but now that I think about it, it sounds like a good idea. How do you usually carry these things? In a backpack (bookbag)? Or do you have a pouch or something that attaches right to your uni?

Thanks,
Josh

The spare tube would be pretty big too. I keep a spare tube at home, but I
don’t think I’d ever pack it on the uni with me unless I was going
cross-country or something.
