We who went to NAUCC and UNICON already have. Neener, neener, neener. I didn’t play with the brake, though.

I took that one home with me. As soon as I get over this raw throat thing,
I’ll start riding it to work. It should be the perfect ride-to-work
unicycle!

Using the brake will take some practice. I don’t have any hills big enough
to need it, but if one learns some emergency moves, it could come in handy
if you need to make a quick stop. The brake on this one is very powerful,
and must be used sparingly!

I can’t put numbers on this, but having lifted both rims together
(while Roger was swapping one onto his Coker at the Sahalie one
evening) the new rim was significantly lighter. Probably enough
that it’ll be noticable in the ride. Ask Rog - he’s made the
switch now…

How does the braking surface on the new rim compare with the brake pad? Are they a good match width-wise? Did anyone try the brakes in wet weather?

I tried it out at UNICON. It was the first brake equipped unicycle I’ve
ridden. At first I very gently applied the brake to see how smoothly it
would drag. It seemed that this would be nice for hills but on the flat
there in the high school parking lot it was hard to tell.

Next I tried the “emergency stop”. This had a slightly more exaggerated
effect. I got up to speed and then tried to coordinate a strong backwards
lean with the application of braking force. The result was me being
catapulted off the Coker. It was the first time I’ve actually been thrown
off a Coker in this fashion.

I think when/if I install a brake on my Coker it will need to be an
adjustable constant drag type. I did quite enjoy riding the one at UNICON
though. Thank you to the unicycle.com folks for letting me have a go on it.

Re: Coker Deluxe

I think it has made a difference, although I have hardly ridden it at all.
I did take it to EJC in Bremen and had a play about in a race that they
reluctantly put on after the games. Did a 400m on it in the unlimited race
and got up to 22.8mph along the straight. This is fast for me, I normally
only get up to just below 20 before I bottle so I think it might be the rim
helping.
