Coker and shoes

Dear Coker-heads!

When I ride off road on my 26" I almost always wear boots, big ones with loads
of grip (Steel toecapped CAT ones as it happens). I like wearing these on my
coker as well, but my feet get really hot. I am worried for the MS ride and have
been looking at other footwear. My deck shoes feel good to begin with but with
time they slip as I relax. My running shoes are the same as my boots good grip
but very hot. Suggestions please!

My fave is light weight walking boots, the sole has fairly good grip while the
cordua constrution keeps the weight down and lets air in. These days it also
lets smell out as the boots are old and a bit pongy, Hi-tec lady Idaho’s as it
happens, for the low cost of £39 ish from Millets or FAS. For wet weather I have
the leather version the Utah boot, but for bobbing along to work and back it’s
what ever shoes I’m wearing, often Clarks trainers occasionaly steelies. I’ve
got round to changing the peddels on my Coker to metel DX’s ( off my 24 inch),
see you on saturday at the Red Bull Mayhem. sarah

Wots wrong with the Solomn boots? Jus fill them full of Pivo for a cool
refreshing ride (FAQ- Slovak beer; PIVO) The boots will definately prevent
sunburn. Are your deck shoes clinker built or carvel? it can be a deciding
factor. Maybe less Corker and more Caulk required.

Just an inciders opinion

Re: Coker and shoes

Has anyone tried clip-in cycling shoes? I don’t know if they’re dangerous on
a unicycle.

Re: Coker and shoes

The shoes that I got are some cross-training shoes. they have a hiking
boot type sole but are more of a running shoe top with a breathable
nylon top. They have worked extremly well, almost too well because if I
get my foot on the wrong spot on the pedal it can be tough to move them.
Also have you tried bikeing socks? they might help by wicking the sweat
away from your feet.

For me, it’s still the good old MacGregor turf/golf shoes from K-mart. These are
made in Korea, and I don’t know how wasy they can be found outside the big
K. They cost around $20 (when not on sale) and don’t last real long, but they
have an excellent, knobby grip. Also they breathe well, so heating is not a
problem. Style is.

Re: Coker and shoes

I am looking forwards to reading a future post that says… “I have just
replaced my shins…”

I have an ingenious toe-clip on my 28" that does not hold your foot to the pedal
yet stops it from slipping off. I can send a drawing if you like.

Re: Coker and shoes

Hi,

AXO brand makes some fantastic over-the-ankle shoes with tread patterns designed
to give grip on flat pedals (designed for downhill mountain bike racing). I
don’t know who distributes these, though.

Do you wear those shoes all the time or just while unicycling? Street or trail?

I couldn’t find the ones you’re talking about at my local Kmart. They might have
been out of stock or something, as they had other MacGregor shoes in there, and
they didn’t seem exceptionally well stocked anyhow. I found something that I
thought was similar (leather top shoe with big round nubs on the bottom) at the
local Walmart though. About $17 there.

You can see the AXO shoes at:

I haven’t tried them.

Street or trail?

I wear my cheap MacGregor turfs a lot, and for all forms of unicycling. I try to
keep them for the unicycling though, because they’re hard to find.

ATTENION K-MART SHOPPERS - I don’t think you can do much scientific shopping in
the K-mart shoe department. I think they sell out of what they have, and replace
it when more comes in. In between, you get some other type of shoe in that
category. I have learned that the store where I used to shop (Rocklin, CA)
doesn’t carry the turf shoes, but another Sacramento area store does. The
Rocklin store was kind enough to order me those shoes and have them brought over
there. If you’re lucky, your store may be able (and willing) to do the same

So, as the duly self-appointed expert on K-mart MacGregor turf shoes for
unicyclists, The shoe you’re looking for is stock #17419, White Astroturf.
Hopefully that’s the info. you need.

Don’t wash them too many times with bleach, because they’ll fall apart
eventually. Am I expecting too much from my $20 shoes?

I’m a snob. I don’t shop at Wal Mart, only K mart

Re: Coker and shoes

My local K mart only had them in 1 size. Gonna try again later
