Coker 36

Just acquired and road a Coker 36 last Sunday - what a freaken blast! This uni is unlike anything I’ve ever ridden. While it took me awhile to get up, once riding I’m fine. Any ideas on successful tips for getting up and going quickly?

the rolling mount

Point the Coker downhill to mount. Even just a slight downhill slope will make it easier to mount.

If you don’t have a slight downhill then look for a level area.

Worst case is trying to mount on a slight uphill slope. That can be difficult. It’s not impossible, but it’s more difficult. The rolling mount works best in this situation.

Do a static mount but grab the wheel at the same time.

Or do a rolling mount. Experiment with the starting position of the cranks vs. your walking speed and stride. I usually take two steps and I know where to position the cranks before I begin.

Or just jump up. Don’t start with the back pedal too high. It can carry your foot over the top and you might land on your butt. Put the back pedal low-ish, then leap up and land on the back pedal and the seat at the same time. This is the essence of the rolling mount but without all the rolling around. You just “get down to business”. I sort of cheat by stepping back from the uni (hold it far in front of you). Without moving the unicycle, I take a baby step or two before jumping up (mostly just to get me moving – I can’t jump well from a standstill).

Lastly (this is not a complaint, by the way), you will get more responses if you post unicycle-related questions in the main forum.

Welcome to the forums! Good luck and have fun!

I do a sort of combination of static mount and rolling mount.
I put the cranks mostly vertical first, and my foot already on the bottom pedal. then step forward and push off so the unicycle rolls under you and the cranks are at least horizontal, and put the other foot on then start riding. works best for me that way.

idk
