Cloverfield

I see that this movie has been mentioned elsewhere but I’m too lazy to go digging around the various posts and comment there.

This movie sucked. Lots of hype, not much delivery.

The special effects, one must admit, were very cool and the monster(s) were terrific. I wanted more of them.

However, the main characters were cliche and dull as dishwater and I barely cared about them. Their behavior and choices were fantastical to the point of interfering with any ability to suspend disbelief. And despite the carnage and destruction, I detested them for their combination of youth and amazing living quarters.

The 9/11 references were meaningless given the unavoidable differences between a terrorist attack and a city under siege by monsters. Not to mention any attempt on the part of the film makers to portray the response as communal.

I think if this movie had been done in Japanese with English voice overs it would have been much more enjoyable.

I somewhat disagree. I didn’t feel that the characters were that annoying.

I was discussing this movie with my friend, and he mentioned that he didn’t even feel that Cloverfield was a monster movie. It was a movie about the characters, with the monster as a catalyst to make the inner conflicts rise even further. I think that it WAS a monster movie, but that idea makes sense to me.

The monster was cool, special effects were cool, the sequel will be cool*, and I enjoyed myself. Japanese would have been cool too.

*If you wait after the credits, there is a sound clip that is really static-y. Apparently if you play it backwards it says “It’s still alive.” This would make it immune to nukes, both corny and cool.

JJuggle, you sound like the kind of person whose taste in movies I would trust. There should be more people like you.

I really really enjoyed watching this movie.

I actually thought that it was incredible. So, I’d have to conclude that Juggles taste in movie’s sucks.

Actually, interesting fact: there were seven people at the screening where I first saw the movie. Four of them were adolescent, 18-20 and three were in their forties and above. All the adolescents loved it and the oldies didn’t dig it that much and thought it was okay, but the camera work made them feel dizzy. That was the point!

Great movie.

I also really enjoyed this movie. I went in with low expectations and came out amazed. Definitely was an awesome movie.

You’re too kind.

My officemate agrees with you. Though she says so in a much nicer way.

I don’t mean to offend you or anything, it’s just that you said that the movie sucks and I just copied your expression in regards to your views.

Incidentally, what sort of movies do you like?

I heard he likes Rogers and Hammerstein musicals.

He knows all the words to ‘There Is Nothing Like A Dame’ and he can sing the really low parts too.

I’m not really offended. But I will point out that there is a difference between saying a movie sucks and telling a person they suck.

I like movies like Cloverfield but that are, in my opinion, better done. I do enjoy horror and monster movies. I think Alien and Aliens were great.

But I like lots of different kinds of movies. It’s hard to sum up. Here’s a smattering of the movies I like.

I saw Cloverfield.

The main reason I saw this movie was how it was filmed in first person (kinda…) and because it looked awesome.

The start was kinda boring and it took a while to get to the point where something actually happens. There was a good amount of comedy from the camera man and special effects were pretty good. Acting was good and throughout the whole movie and it was pretty enjoyable. I think the ending sucked and unless they make a sequel with the characters in the end, I give the movie 7/10 and if they make a sequal I’d give it 8.5 or 9/10.

I think it’s best that if you just go see a normal movie and that ends and THEN Cloverfield’s playing, then you should just pop into that theater for the 1 and a half hour movie and watch it.

Also, my friend threw up at the end (i lol’d at him but he was not amused) becasue the camera view was like a roller coaster. I think it was mainly him though becasue at the start there was a warning about the way the movie’s filmed and he just said “oh crap.” So if you get motion sickness easily I wouldn’t see this movie.

i agree, the movie literally made me sick. i mean i was getting up every so often to go puke. nobody go see it

:astonished: :astonished: :astonished:
Now THAT is just too funny (I couldn’t hold it in)

My friend said that it made him feel sick.

Now I HAVE to see it in the theater, to see if it makes me throw up.

They should show it on imax!

Haha, I want to see it now, because of that…

Its still alive. Google it.
