Close call! last ditch guess as to where I lost my camera!

For the better half of the day I’ve been BAFFLED as to where I left my digital camera. I had so many things happening today; my brother was flying in to the local airport and I had to pick him up, and just prior to that, I had someone come to look at a piano I had for sale, plus it’s Father’s day so lots of things happening. I wanted to bring my digital camera to my Dad’s to take some pics, and the last I could remember seeing it was around 11am, when I popped in the memory card.

Somehow I misplaced it, and soon after I was literally turning my house and car inside out looking for it. No luck. So after I got back home I tried to retrace my steps and again looked all over the house and went through my car again with a fine tooth comb. Nothing! I knew one thing; I had not taken it far from the house, and only possibly had placed it in my car knowing I would be taking it to my Dad’s.

This was turning into a total and complete mystery. Then I started thinking…could the people that were here looking at the piano have taken it? I discounted that possibility as they stayed in my shop the whole time and ended up buying the piano!

So I was about to give up and just accept that it was lost, or maybe it would turn up in the near future. THEN a funny thought came into my head…almost as a last ditch guess that I didn’t expect to pay off. Tomorrow is trash day, and I had put all three trash cans out in front for the garbage truck to pick up first thing in the morning. So, I thought, why not, I’ve already checked everywhere else like FIVE times now…so it couldn’t hurt to just take a look.

I opened the first of three, and there were two paper grocery bags with trash. So I lifted a few items out and peered down inside…THERE IT WAS!!! I thought, WTF and Thank goodness at the same time! I could NOT believe I had inadvertently put the camera in with the trash! Then it hit me and I remembered. I had placed my camera in my car to take with me, and set it on the passenger seat.

There were a couple of empty pepsi bottles and some trash in a plastic bag also on the passenger seat, and since I was picking up my brother, I wanted to throw that stuff away to clear the seat for him. In my haste (I was running late from the piano customer) I grabbed not only the trash but the camera as well, (obviously not intending to throw that away) and being totally preoccupied with other things, dropped it ALL into the trash can! I feel very lucky indeed that I thought to look in the trash, or it would have been lost forever come morning time! Yay!

Ahaha, glad you got it back.

Im trying to remember when was the last time I lost something like that

The minds the first thing to go.

Yes, and I’m sorry for your loss! :p;)

Glad you found it. How has your HD camcorder been doing since its little accident. I heard you got it working again, but is it running smoothly?

You have the basic human design fault - two hands, one brain

It is a scary thought to think of putting something valuable in the trash. You won’t stumble across it one day because it is gone.

Nice story. Now the pictures will continue.

Works smoothly, like it never fell in the water! I was also worried that the water (from the stream) might also end up corroding any wiring or metal parts inside, rendering it inoperable. So far so good!

haha yeah, that, and aging! :o

I was prepared to buy another one, but I checked and Sony doesn’t make that model anymore. I guess it’s like computers, cars and technology in general. Every year something new comes out to replace last year’s model.

Ran out of edit time. I did find it still available from amazon, but at a much higher price than what I originally paid! Great camera, but way overpriced here:

Good story. Losing things is one of the most frustrating things. I’m glad to hear you found it!

I agree. I lost my favorite pocket knife in 1974 and still have not found it.

Man, if I had a penny for the number of times I’ve left my gloves on the roof of my car and driven off after a ride…

… I’d have three pence.
