I have read many threads from riders of practically new KH uni’s with clicking hub noise. Has anyone solved this by pulling bearings with puller, applying Triflow to axel and adding grease to hub?
I am told this will repair this problem.
I purchased a KH29 in December. Only able to ride maybe 4 hours a week till suddenly this terrible annoying noise started at end of April.
Turn up music to drown out the noise? Really? That was one suggestion I read here. I expected this KH to be a top notch uni after my research. Before the noise started it was and I was loving my uni. Not too happy now.
Did you buy it from UDC? If so contact them about the problem. You are under warranty. If you bought it somewhere else, contact the seller. I just had mine replaced. I hope the new hub doesn’t have the same issue.
I am not here to pile on Kris Holm since I am not alone with this problem. I was very satisfied with my uni until this noise. It probably needs to return and have the hub replaced. I purchased from a store in Portland. I took it in once and they pulled the cranks then reinstalled cranks. No change.
He has suggested this fix I ask about here but does not have a bearing puller. Tells me when I call he intends to get one. He had recently moved the store location in December when I purchased. The building now has problems being slowly resolved for him so I am trying to be patient. It is frustrating because I really caught the uni bug in the few months I did get to ride.
no offence to kris but the one kris holm product ( rail type seatpost) just broke it was realitivly new and broke ( the twisting problem )on the practice lap of mountian mayhem i only just found a replacement kris really needs to look at the quality control of his products
yes the hub will still work as it should but so would a beer can if you put flanges on it , when you pay so much for somthing it should work perfectly and be reliable !
I had this kind of sound and a feeling like the spokes were rubbing over each other, [thread=89417]just last night[/thread]. Turned out I only had to tighten the bearing cap a little.
Do all the routine maintenance stuff before judging the situation. Retighten everything, make sure your spokes have even tension and your wheel is close to being true.
It doesn’t sound like you put your uni through the same ordeal my KH20 went through, but I’d rather have a uni that talks to me about its problems.
+1. Try this first^. I had the same clicking noise and I just tightened the bearing holders, and the clicking went away.
