Hope all the Unicyclists in Chch are Ok
and all the civilians.
i read that and it comes across wrong.
I do hope christchurch is ok, i saw it on the news this morning.
Yes
Looks like the Chch Cathedrals come down
Christchurch Airport closed
Chch Hospital evacuated, operating out of the carpark
Probable fatalities
We had Christmas dinner there on the way to Unicon last year. I hope the family that hosted us is unharmed, along with everyone else.
listen to the radio now, it doesn’t sound brilliant. A lot of people trapped.
It looks awful!!! 2 buses crushed in the city.
Multiple fatalities. City has run out of ambulances.
I get really upset by these types of events, I couldn’t even read the article. I am sending good thoughts and wishes to anyone effected by this. So terrible to see things like this happen.
I am guessing this is not an area used to earthquakes, judging by all the brick buildings. Very sad.
It’s not usually a place you think of as having earthquakes, although they had a big one in Sept last year.
There are quite a few unicyclists from Chch on RSU.
Can they post on here to say they’re ok? Got the same thread on the NZ forums.
powers down over most of Christchurch. and if they do have power they are told to use it sparingly. it might be a while
Thanks for your support everyone.
My family and I are fine our power has been back on since last night (about 12 hours ago). I’ve heard of fb from some of the other unicyclists in chch but not all of them. I still haven’t heard from Alex (skierAlex) but there i guess there are still plenty of places without power.
That is good to hear that you and you family are ok. I am hoping the best for the other unicyclists.
Glad you’re ok James!
This looks pretty bad:

Was there flooding as well?
its liquefaction
There’s been soil liquefaction. There’s also been actual flooding due to water. I’m not sure if it’s been due to water mains breaking (possibly due to soil liquefaction) or dikes breaking or other reasons. News photos have shown flooding.
It’s been somber reading and watching the news. The five story Pyne Gould building pancaked with people inside. The CTV building crumbled to rubble (the building is no longer there) with people inside. And there’s others. How many people were in the cathedral? People trapped in other areas. Homes destroyed.
Portland or Seattle could face similar damage if the right kind of quake hit them.
the casualty update is 65 confirmed dead and another 300 missing. many people are still stuck in rouble. We know a nurse who has gone down to help out. she said quite a few young people have had to have limbs amputated to get out alive. watching the news at the moment is like watching a move, it still doesnt seem real.
Great to here your fine. Alex has said he is fine on Facebook. Hope everyone one is ok, its so sad what has happened.
shocked about this tragedy I am happy to here good news from you unicyclists.
as a lot unicyclists we´ve been there after Unicon.
Our thought´s are with you, hoping things develope as well as possible!
