Cheapest MUni frame w/real seat post?

Well, I just bent my 3rd 22mm seat post. What’s the cheapest MUni frame I can get that holds a real mountain bike seatpost?

At least they’re only $15can…time to give Bedford a call!

What about using a 7/8" BMX seatpost? A post like the Primo Rod would work. Granted the 7/8" BMX posts are chromoly and heavy, but they won’t bend. It would be nice to have a strong high quality alloy 7/8" seatpost, but I haven’t found any. All the 7/8" posts are steel and heavy.

I’m using a Primo Rod on my Coker. The Primo post uses steel seat guts (the pieces that clamp on the seat rails). You can upgrade the seat guts to alloy guts to save a little weight. You can also cut the seatpost shorter to save a little weight. In order to use a bike seatpost you’ll also need to get a rail bracket for your seat. Dans Comp <http://www.danscomp.com/> carries both the Primo seatpost and the XS alloy seat guts.

Another option is to get a custom seatpost made. Max Dingeman’s dad has made some reinforced Miyata style seatposts with beefed up steel. If his posts can survive Max’s use then they must be strong. I’d also give unicycle.com a ring to see if they have any stronger Miyata style seatposts in the works. Stronger and longer Miyata posts are needed and they need to be easy to order rather than custom jobs.

The Dingemans use a wooden dowel inserted into the seat post to reinforce them. You may want to try that.

Re:

that would be mine, Profile fork for $50 bucks.its the last piece of my muni carcass that i have not sold.

I break posts not hubs. A $50 frame is no good to me without a $1000 hub (I figure you need the profile hub…therefore cranks to operate this?) I’m suprised Profile doesn’t make a splined pedal that only fits on profile cranks. They could let them go for $500 a piece. Spare pins would only be $100 each!

prices are mildly exagerated.

Thanks, but no thanks

Our posts also are made from thick wall chromoly. That helps a bit.

nope just the right size berings.i had planed on putting a Sem deluxe hub on it and having a cheap muni.you sound angry.sorry i interupted your angst.

Did Sofa get teased as a kid by everyone with Profiles? There seems to be great anger towards Profile.

Time to step in and defend myself.

I was figuring that they took the profile hubs. As this is a pretty close community, I figured people would remember my last post on the profile hub. (too much $) This was an extension of that.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure when I have the money and there’s nothing left to buy, I’ll get one. Until then, they’re too overpriced.

I’m not really an angry person, just grumbly

I meant, I have one, but they’ll still be too overpriced

Open your own bike shop, then you can get them for $225.

How do you break a seatpost? I wouldn’t have thought there would be much force on them other than at the top where it joins the seat. Do you have Thighs Of Steel ™ or something? I’m intrigued…

Phil, just me

I bend seatposts, I didn’t mean break them.

Note…this is a cheap frame post (but thanks for the alternate seatposts, i had no idea), not a Profile is a ripoff post, please respond accordingly

Is this directly from profile? or a wholesaler? if so, which one? It’s not in any of the whole salers that my shop deals with.

Profile direct.

Damn, I wish the owner of the shop i work at wasnt such a, for lack of a better term, scrudge (holy shit that is wrong!). he barely lets people order stuff the the wholesaler, and makes us fill out forms in at least triplicate. and I had to pay full price like a sucker…

Max, where do you work?? Our friend Tom got a good deal straight from Profile on two hub sets, and a frame at Interbike last year. I’ll have to check out my local bike shop to see what kind of a deal they can get me on the Profile hub and cranks, if they can get them at all. cheers…Joe in Iowa
