Cheaper than a tattoo...

A friend of mine branded himself the other day…I reckon it looks fantastic. In reality it looks much smoother than it does in this picture.

That looks painful. Like, missing a suicide mount and landing on the boys painful. How did he do that?

Daniel

I think he bent a paper clip into the shape of a unicycle and heated it on the stove. I for one am very impressed.

Andrew

How permanent is it?

Don’t know sorry, but it seems rather permanent.

If it is permanent them I’m just gonna have to say it… your friend’s a bit of a dero.

branding is permanent.

There’s some information about branding on the rec.arts.bodyart newsgroup in its FAQ. You can also get info at BME, a huge body modification site.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I thought it looked very nice, but I do get a bit nervous when kids decide to DIY a job like this. Make sure he keeps it from getting infected, Andrew.

Sorry, that should have been BME.

He’s no kid…he’s probably in his mid twenties.

Andrew

Like I said, make sure he doesn’t let it get infected.

Anyway, it does look fine.

Yeh, as I said, that photo was taken not long after it was was done and the light is doing strange things to the image. In reality it looks cleaner and smoother.

!

looks like it pains :astonished:

but looks spiffy too

The permanence of a brand depends on the persons skin type. Those who tend to keloid more heavily will have a nicer brand. The less you tend to keloid the less noticieable the brand will be. I know a few individuals whose brands have completely disappeared.

When branding is done properly it is a very safe procedure. Branding oneself is typically not a good idea since it can be much more difficult to accurately “strike” your own flesh. To all you out there who are thinking of going the “Stove and paper clip” route I would recommend staying away from that. The procedure a professional brander uses is MUCH less painful during the actual brand although I would imagine the pain of healing to be about the same. That said I do like the way that one turned out. It would be cool to see some photos of it over time or at least one after it’s healed to see how far it spreads out.

I’m not sure what “dero” means but I’ll assume that it’s derogatory. Why would you say that he’s a “dero”? Are you jealous because he’s capable of making “permanent” decisions for himself? People are popping out babies all the time with no thought about it and that’s just as permanent as his new brand is. I would much rather see people making permanent decisions that will only affect themselves rather than one that will put a burden on the rest of society.

Dero is derolict.

What size is the brand, and where on his body is it?
I can’t really tell from the picture.

I don’t get this discussion.
I don’t know what “dero” or “derolict” means in this context. Having a child, or a brand, is a permanent bad decision if you regret it afterwards, but I don’t see the point of bringing that up.
I’m lost. Please help.

i htink its on his arm or leg

spiffy

it looks spiffy, just spiffy
I love it

would dero be just whatever you wanted dero to be??
like "you are a dero (meaning loser, dumba** [can i swear??] ect)
?

Here’s another frame from a video showing where it is and the size.
