True, and you’ll have a unicycle…someday. When is unknown. But when you
get it, it’ll be as good as it gets for a strong giraffe. I have one.

The unicycle on eBay (already sold) looks like it was customized from an old
Oxford or similar 1970s standard Japanese unicycle. A cool idea to have two
different lengths of central frame, though I wonder if there is any play in
the joints where it’s connected.

Note the cranks are cottered, and yes there is some out-of-alignment in
them, which could probably be repaired with new cotter pins.

The most worrisome thing is the bend in the frame. If this is an actual
bend, the frame may be about to let go (break), which could be very
dangerous. I’ve only ever seen giraffe frames break in one place, and that
place is always where the seat tube attaches to the bottom bracket (crank
barrel). But, this is a hand-made unicycle, and it may have been originally
built with that alignment being a bit off. Then there is nothing wrong with
it.

Ouch! On a 8’ or 10’ giraffe that would boil down to a very nasty
accident!

Re: Cheap 8-10 Foot Giraffe

Yeah, I had a homemade giraffe frame break in half right below the cranks
(I’m not a very good welder). I was going up a short fairly steep path and
it just gave out. Luckily I fell forward and the uni fell almost straight
down. It was only slightly different than an UPD. Well, I guess
technically it WAS an UPD.

a UPB, unplanned break.
