cheap 24" rim

I will soon need a cheap 24" rim (to accept a 24x1.75 tire) to lace up to my hub for testing. Who knows of a source of CHEAP 24" rims and spokes? This is a prototype and I EXPECT things to break. I’m not looking for high end stuff here.

Thanks.

Harper, Off the top of my head, check out www.bikepartsusa.com They sell
cheap 36 spoke steel rims for under $10 U.S. Probably the cheapest are
called “Wheel Master” or something similar. To find the rims go to the box
on the right hand side and select “rims” or search. Then click the link
for 24". (Actually, it’s pretty easy to find.)

Most cheap rims will run you $10, and the spokes won’t be much more. Check out that site or any local bike shop can order it for you.

Thanks for the info, guys. I was looking in the wrong places and coming up with high dollar stuff.

Check out Recycled Cycles (http://www.recycledcycles.com/)
They’re a used bike parts shop in Seattle. They probably have some low cost used 24" rims.

And also check out The Bikesmith (http://www.thebikesmith.com/)
It’s an interesting shop in the Wallingford area. They might be able to set up some low cost test wheels for your hub.

The Bikesmith also makes a 2 speed fixed gear hub. I’m sure they would find your geared hub to be interesting.

The Bikesmith is the place that brazed on a seat post extension for my Miyata seat so I could use the Miyata seat on my 20" Ringmaster. They’re willing to do all sorts of interesting or unusual projects.

Bikesmith trued my Coker wheel after a severe taco. They are the best. They’re
also a Pashley dealer–though they don’t usually keep unicycles in stock.

Thanks a heap. Bikepartsusa definitely has the kind of rim I’m looking for. I also contacted The Bikesmith, a local outfit, to see what kind of advice I can get to do this weird lacing. I also may have a rim donor in the wings. Drummond may give me a cheap, steel rim. Hats off again to unicycle.com.
