I do have a Word document from unicycle.com that has a template for the CF seat. However, I do NOT recommend using the template. The dimensions change depending on what printer you print it on. You won’t end up with something that is perfectly to scale. You can use the template as an approximation so you can position the seatpost at about the right location. If you have an existing Miyata saddle you can use the Miyata saddle to give you the same approximate locations. Send me your email address to my hotmail account in my signature and I can send you the Word doc if you want it.

The best way to do it is to use the actual hardware to locate the holes. I put masking tape on the CF base, position the seatpost bracket and bumpers where I want them, mark the holes with a pen, then drill. It is best to actually drill with the hardware in position (i.e. drill through the holes in the hardware). This keeps the drill from moving and helps to make sure the holes stay lined up. Drill one hole, put a bolt through to keep it in place, then drill the other holes.

I’m going to assume you’re going to use carriage bolts. The Miyata carriage bolts are metric, you can also use 1/4 inch carriage bolts if you don’t have spare Miyata hardware. Drill the hole then use a small square or triangular file to file the hole square for the carriage bolt.

It’s really easy to drill the carbon fiber. I’ve done four CF saddles. It’s easy, but the first one made me a little nervous thinking I was going to mess up the holes.
