I only like to play cards socially. It’s lots of fun to get the gang together, crack open a nice bottle of Scotch, and bullsh*t around the table while pissing away a few dollars. We never play anything more than 50 cent blinds, unless we’re playing a tourney. Even then, buy in is only $10.
I don’t like cards enough to play it for the sake of playing it, competing, making money, etc. Online poker doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, as it takes away some of your ability to read other players. I guess people are just hooked on gambling…
I also caught the poker bug… I dabbled with NL Holdem at the micro stakes and I wasn’t really feeling it- then I moved on to 7 stud hi and that’s what got me hooked. I now play 7 stud, omaha h/L limit and 7 stud h/l with a sprinkle of HORSE every now and then. Usually on Pokerstars although I do have an account at Full tilt.
Not true. Most online poker sites are owned and regulated by the Kanekewaha Gaming Commission, as part of a Native American mohawk tribe. Which makes them legal.
I play lots of social games, since I’m in college, but I’ve surpassed all of my regular opponents in playing ability and have picked up several solid tells on each of them, so I play online for a challenge. Often, I’ll surpass what I make at work playing poker at home. On Sunday, I am entered into a tournament for a chance to win anywhere from $40-$36,000 depending on how well I play. If I win that one I get to play heads-up against a pro for 300k.
