I tried to read The Da Vinci Code once, but it was kinda boring… I didn’t make it past chapter two.
I didn’t read the article, but just simplify it for me: was the Cardinal motivated by the essential Christian virtue of humility, or the essential Christian virtue of forgiveness?
What’s the big deal? IT’S A BOOK!!
There was also some “The muslims did it, we can too”
And respect
Is it too late to sue over the Protocols of the Elders of Zion?
yep, and so is the bible.
If you actually believe things you see in Hollywood films you are a moron. I think these bishops really underestimate the intelligence of their followers, but I guess after being read to from a book of ridicolous sounding stories their whole life this may sound reasonable to them.
In the beginning it’s an uninventive cross between James Bond and Indianna Jones. But that changes when they get to Rome. Then it becomes too caught up in buildings and sculptures and start sounding like it was written by the turist board. The action gradually picks up along the way. If you’ve only read the two first chapters you’ve read the worst part of the book in vain.
they should boycott having sex with kids before worrying about someone else profiting off of a different version of a fairy tale they’ve been telling and profiting from
never thought I’d hear of a cardinal ASKING for leagal action!
Let’s keep that out of the discussion…it’s irrelevant
No, I don’t think it’s entirely irrelevant.
Go read Matthew 7:3.
We can chat later.
I assume the legal basis would be libel, or similar… so in that case, all us that don’t follow their religion should sue them… for libel. They make a claim that those of us that don’t believe are evil, possessed by the devil, and/or are going to hell. That has caused great conflict and suffering for us, and is libel.
Respeck! A bigger smart-arse than me!
And now this…
Sounds to me like the usual publicity-grabbing. Wow, look at all the press the DaVinci Code movie is getting! If we say anything about it, it’ll get worldwide headlines, and be discussed by housewives and unicyclists everywhere. This puts the Catholic church in peoples’ minds; free advertising.
The Catholic church, in general, likes moves of posession and exorcism, such as The Exorcist, because in those films, which are admittedly fiction, the Catholic church is always the good guy. More free advertising. This isn’t a story about possession, but it still puts the church in the public mind.
DaVinci Code is just a book? Not any more. Now it’s going to be the most-anticipated movie of the year so far. More opportunity for everyone to get heard, and to get their words and ideas into peoples’ heads, for free.
The Opus Dei thing I know less about. I can’t remember if the book portrays that whole organization as “bad guys” or just a few zealous members. Other movies have bad Catholics. Sorry. I guess they have more cause to be annoyed, though again, it’s a work of fiction. The author is not claiming this stuff is true. If he’s not claiming it isn’t either, it’s because he also knows how to build popular interest in his product.
The book was very fun to read, and it sounded like it was geared toward being made into a movie. I hope it’s a good one!
I know I can’t wait to see it.
me neither
well the cradinal thinks it may start its own cult following you know like Star trek,Harry pot(head)ter and star wars and thats why they are urging action
ditto here
