I just had to tell of the bargain I found at a local car boot sale today.
Cultural note: for those not understanding the above Car Boot = Car Trunk,
thus car boot sale = a lot of people filling their car boots with surplus junk
hauling it to a car park (parking lot) along with a lot of other people and
flogging (selling) the contents. Ahem. a 24" uni in pretty good condition, no
noticeable wear on the tyre, seat only very mildly abraded, very superficial
rust on the chrome body, cranks and rim. Pedals a bit battered. Asking price £10
UK the nice man was happy to accept £5 UK. and, I replaced the pedals with a
mildly BMX set i bought at the same sale for £2 UK. But the <best> bit was being
able to free mount the thing, despite the saddle being to low, and ride it away. Not able to identify the make as there are no distingushing marks but it
seems to be mid way in quality between a Pashley and a DM. So i’ve got something
i can hammer without worrying <too> much about wrecking. The bargains are out
there. That brings the collection to three now… at what number does a
collection go critical?
A collection never goes critical. There is always some neigbor kid who comes of
age and wants to join the fun. Sometimes you can even get a little yard work out
of them in the deal.
