Can precession cause pedals to become loose when riding downhill?

Precession is the term for the force that can cause pedals to become loose when riding backwards (or with the wheel installed backwards).

Today when riding down a long stretch of pavement I started wondering… since nearly all of the force is being applied to the pedals in reverse (to keep the wheel from rolling out from under me) is it the same as pedaling in reverse and thus a potential problem for loosening the pedals? Or, does precession have nothing to do with the “backwards” force and everything to do with the direction of rotation?

Have you ever had pedals come loose and attributed it to downhill riding?

Found my answer here.

I did use the forum search before posting and it turned up nothing but a google search found it.
