Calling Muniers/Trialers to Seattle

The Seattle International Bike Expo (Febrary 18-20) is calling all Muni and
Trial riders!!!

The Seattle Bike Expo is the largest bike expo in the country–that is open to
the general public. My friend, Dave Shaw, runs the expo, and is looking for
unicycle trials people who can demo during the expo. He didn’t realize that I
was a unicyclist, and didn’t know how to contact us.

The facts: There is no money involved. There is a trials course already set up.
He would like a half dozen people or so who can demonstrate unicycle trials/muni
techniques. He would arrange the times when he hears what we can deliver. He is
not interested in freestyle–just trials or muni. He needs to know who can come
by Feb 11th. He can’t accomodate people who show up at the last minute.

This expo attracts 20,000 people or so. It would be a good showcase for
unicycling.

John Childs, Dan Heaton, Kris Holmes—you all live nearby. Can you get to
Seattle for this event? How about some of the SF Bay crew? George Peck, do you
need a break from all that winter? You can try out my ultimate wheel. I can
offer a fun place to stay. You will like our island hospitality.

Re: Calling Muniers/Trialers to Seattle

David,

I’d love to come!. There is a big show in Vancouver that weekend (indoor North
Shore Race in BC Place Stadium), but that is only for one day. I believe it is
the 18th but I’ll check. I can drive down for the other days. Any ideas on
places to stay? Does he want any bike trials riders too? I could probably
convince a Norco teamate to come too.

Cheers,

Kris

Re: Calling Muniers/Trialers to Seattle

Hehe… I don’t really think you want me to demonstrate trials riding in public.
I’m a klutz when it comes to hopping even over small curbs. I haven’t even been
willing to officially try for level 3 because I might not be able to make it
over the 10cm obstacle. <g>

The Bike Expo in Seattle is a good show. I spent a day at the Expo last year. It
was the first time that I had been able to watch bicycle trials riding in
person. It was an indoor course which is a good thing given the typical Seattle
weather this time of year. Some of the obstacles they had would have been
impossible for a unicycle but perfect for bikes. I don’t think a unicycle can
make it over a 55 gallon drum that is on its side and free to roll. Some of the
jumps and gaps were also a bit too far for a unicycle too. If a unicycle trials
rider does go you will need to coordinate with the people making the course to
make a section appropriate for what a unicycle can do.

I’ll be going to the Bicycle Expo again this year (just to observe). Hopefully
I’ll see some familiar faces there. There are some good pubs nearby too.
