California is the best state. Gay marriage is now legal.

I may be straight, but as Mahatma Gandhi said “No one is free when others are oppressed.”

In my book, the world just got a little better today.

I’m also not gay, but I’m glad to hear that gays can marry now in California. Don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to, the people opposing it aren’t affected by it.

Please be sure to state your sexual orientation if you post in this thread. Just so there is no confusion.

[that’s sarcasm, by the way…]

Just read this in the same report:

“The question is whether the court will acknowledge that this is going to be on the ballot in November and stay its hand,” Pugno said. “It’s really to no one’s benefit to legalize same-sex marriage for four months if the voters are ultimately going to amend the constitution. That would just create chaos and great uncertainty about the status of those marriages.”

Oh really? That’s not what they’re saying.

The people opposing it are making dozens of arguments why it shouldn’t be allowed… but they all stem from the fact that the institution of marriage is built upon a foundation of religious intolerance.

Keep reading, Terry:

Ahhnold also said, “as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling.”

A lesbian couple that I know lives in Cali and have been engaged for years. They’ve been waiting anxiously for this day and they are going to run to the courthouse ASAP.

Congratulations to all of California’s loving couples!

I’m still on the fence as far as gay marriage. Right now if it came to a vote in Colorado, I would not vote on it.

I do agree that they deserve the same right as a male/female married couple in the eyes of the law. I’m much more comfortable with a civil union.

Yeah, it’s now legal to be happy when married.

But is it compulsory?

hetero- I think that people oposing other people business is redicules anyways. What right do they have to controll what other people do/say.
They dont; what happend to land of the free?

Can you explain the difference? Why is one acceptable, but not the other?

In the UK we have “civil partnerships” which, as far as I understand them, have the same legal effects, rights and responsibilities as “marriage”. Perhaps you can’t claim that the union is sanctified by God, or some such similar nonsense, but I suspect the alternative name is nothing but a sop to the bigots.

Al

that is the stupidest crap i’ve ever heard.

i guess we should rewrite history, and make adam and steve!
oh thats a great idea, lets do that!! oh no! i don’t exist, neither do you! oh no!!!
hahahah!!! i bet 10 comments at least reply to this angrily!!

i’m wanting to say a few other, much stronger words; however, they are unfit for a forum in which younger people browse.

when the constitution was written, the saying “all men are created equal” refers to white males. anyway back to the discussion, i’m straight and i think gay marriage should be abolished. marriage=1 man & 1 woman.

If I recall correctly, ‘Adam and Eve’ was a story, not definite history.

In any case, what would be wrong with Adam and Steve? Changing Adam’s partner’s name doesn’t make the story any less provable. Just sayin’.

I dont like Marriage at all. Why can’t someone live with the person they want to spend their life with without having the church/government saying so?

It is expensive and messy when it doesn’t work out.

Abolish marriage! with satelite mounted super lasers.

There is no “sanctity” left in marriage anymore, anyway.

Hetero couples have made marriage a shambles. Divorce is too easy, Most people don’t understand what a “vow” means. You can “Marry a Millionaire” you just met on a TV show.

Let our gay friends Marry…they can’t screw it up any worse.

Dave, we must assume that since you did not state that you are straight, you must not be.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that

/tongue-in-cheek

Hey, I agree, but everyone has the right to make the same mistake.

I am occasionally mistaken for gay and often enough called disparaging terms reserved for gays.

I am extremely pleased with the California Supreme Court’s decision. Another step forward for fairness and equality.

Did I mention that some of my best friends are gay?
