Bush Commutes Border Agents

President George W. Bush is the best president ever.

“These agents shot someone whom they knew to be unarmed and running away,” said the prosecutor, United States Attorney Johnny Sutton. “They destroyed evidence, covered up a crime scene and then filed false reports about what happened. It is shocking that there are people who believe it is O.K. for agents to shoot an unarmed suspect who is running away.”

Of course Bush commuted their sentence. It’s basically how the whole Bush administration operated for the last 8 years.

And Obama will virtually commute/pardon the Bush administration, without trials.

Billy said pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Par for the course for GWB.

Except for the part about what Obama will do. Though Billy is probably accurate, I hope it will be more of an ignoring than a pardoning or commuting. To do so would be to acknowledge whatever unlawful acts.

Their sentences were commuted, but they were not “pardoned” and there is a significant distinction. And both parties in congress welcomed GW’s decision to commute their sentences.

And let’s compare the pardons and clemency totals by Bush with those of Clinton.
Clinton: 456
GW: 191

And here’s GW’s list: (Note: In contrast to some of his predecessors, President Bush has been one of the most cautious presidents in modern U.S. history when granting pardons or commutations)

**So if that’s “par for the course for GWB”, I guess that would be quadruple BOGEY for Clinton! :stuck_out_tongue:

There you go again with numbers, Terry. No context. No comparison. Just “hey look this number’s bigger than the other”… and “hey look at these links”.

You know there’s a name and a story behind each of those numbers… don’t you?

Could you possibly explain why GWB’s pardons are “better” than Clintons?

I’d be okay if Clinton pardoned 4,000 people, as long as none of them were dangerous criminals… it seems there are a few people pardoned by GWB who’ve been convicted of assault and/or arson.

You really think that’s okay, Terry?

MuniAddict,

If Rezzi does a 30-foot drop onto shear rock, does that make it OK for you to do it too?

Ramos and Compean became a rallying point among conservatives like MuniAddict and on talk shows where their supporters like MuniAddict called them heroes. Nearly the entire bipartisan congressional delegation from Texas and other lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle pleaded with Bush to grant them clemency.

Compean and Ramos, who have served about two years of their sentences, are expected to be released from prison within the next two months.

Bush didn’t pardon the men for their crimes, but decided instead to commute their prison sentences because he believed they were excessive and that they had already suffered the loss of their jobs, freedom and reputations, a senior administration official said. action by the president, who believes the border agents received fair trials and that the verdicts were just, does not diminish the seriousness of their crimes, the official said.

Bush has decided that anyone convicted of murder and cover-ups should be released from prison, provided they suffered the loss of their jobs, freedom and reputations.

Billy

Of course Border Agents commute. Their job isn’t exactly condusive to telecommuting. Sorry, just had to say it.
