BUC was amazing, it was my first time I have ever been. I have attended one other SWUM event.
I think the highlights of my weekend were seeing Joe Hodges and his great unicycling (even whilst drunk :P).
Seeing Yoggi ride, that was great, he is an amazing rider (Joe hodges and Yoggi got joint first on the trials competition followed by Joe Baxtor).
I met some amazing riders like Connie Cotter (former unicyclist of the world).
The video compitition was great, Me and Amanda got joint first place.
Dale for landing a 180 flip.
Unfortunatly I missed most of the freestyle competition, I saw Lucas win it but missed some of the ones I wanted to see most (Amandas routine and Leo & Leo's routine). Any one get any of these on Video?
Me landing a double flip, this one meant alot. It took ages to land, I even managed to get £10 from Joe Hodges for landing one in front of him.
Are there any others I have missed? I know there were many more (like ‘The Bishop’ jokes).
Point out some of your other favourite times at BUC here.
Mike
[Edit] Sorry guys, I asked amanda how to spell Favourite just in case for the title and it looks like I ended up just writing ‘BUC Favourite’. I meant it to say ‘BUC Favourite times’ Or something. Sorry. [\Edit]
[Edit again]I found out how to edtit the title. Sorry again
The highlight for me was meeting so many other unicyclists - people I ‘know’ from the forum, people I’ve met before and other people whom I’ve never spoken to.
Sub highlights include:
The show - top quality.
The other kids for Sam to play with.
Top tips from Steve that helped to improve my idling and backwards riding.
Finding out that I could bounce a basket ball and score baskets whilst on my unicycle (I never could on foot).
Getting the tent up before the rain, thunder and lightening descended.
Yeh i loved BUC
i think it has been my favourite one yet because i got to know alot more people than in the past where ive been a cocky little skin head lol
Winning the freestyle was definetly a highlight for me and the video competition. Seeing my fall on big screen was so cool
Mike landing a double flip, dale landing flip tricks right left and centre.
It really showed that the british standard of unicycling in most aspects is improving really quickly to a hi standard
hey dudes and dudettes! well cant believe its over already

The rain
See you all next year! Thanks for a great weekend everyone!
I dont think he did he was coming very close but then he gave up as far as i no, I got consistent at coming ridiculusly close to crankflipping it was quite demoralising then i hurt my nuts so I stopped,
Oh and I forgot one of the funniest moments was me swinging my saddle and it ‘‘hitting’’ mike in the ‘‘nuts’’ lol
sos about that mate probs went a bit far on the winding up aswell of mike lol he is a great rider congrats to mike for landing the first double flip on flat in europe as far as we know.
A big thanks to all involved in organising last weeks BUC - Especially to Steve R for all your efforts and for looking so calm and collected on the outside, while I’m sure you were being pulled left, right and centre on the inside.
Everyone I’ve spoken to really enjoyed themselves, including ourselves. So a big thanks from Wendy, Tio, Zak & myself.
The hi-light for myself was being 2-1 up against the LUnis at halftime in our quarter round tie. We did end up loosing 6-2 though:(
The social side of these conventions is just as important to myself as riding itself and so it was great to meet up with everyone again. It was nice to see and meet so many new faces as well. Thanks for the chat’s Matt and good look with the C2C.
Apologies for not making more of an effort to organise a beginners hockey match. I’ll push for a beginners hockey match before the hockey starts proper at next years BUC.
Thanks again to all involved in making this years BUC a success.
Was over by chance at the weekend and it was a last-minute and fairly spontaneous decision to make the trip over to Scarborough, beating an alchoholic weekend in Bath into second place. Definately made the right decision! Even though A Person I Know Quite Well is a unicycle fanatic, this is the first unicycle convention I’ve been to and had a fab time!! Looks like in future I’ll be trading in my bachelor weekends of pizza, beer and allnight playstation to accompany her at conventions
Anyway, for me, highs of the weekend:
learning to free mount (thanks again Steve!!)
vastly improving my riding ability in general (purposely avoiding the word skills there )
not injuring myself (save a small bruise and couple of scratches)
fantastic show (basketball number was well cool!)
great catering! (and I mean that sincerely)
and of course the many friendly people I met and spoke to, who invariably had, if not good tips, then tools, mallets, cigarettes, crisps and even a unicycle to borrow or consume. Big thanks to you all, expect you’ll know who you are
oh yeah… and buying a winning raffle ticket!
…and staying dry… in a tent that had just come out of 12 years hibernation in the loft!
And the lows:
almost, but not, winning the unicycle in the raffle (just 2 strips away) the prize eventually won being only marginally more desirable than a book on poi
the rain. of course.
freezing cold showers. or maybe I was just unlucky with the timing?!
So HUGE thanks to the two Steves and all others involved! Maybe not everything went to plan, but there’s no mistaking the effort and hard work that went into it all and I doubt that anyone came away disappointed.
I had a great weekend, though I would of liked it to be one day longer (I doubt the organisers would, BTW well done guys) it went so quick.
The hockey competition was excellent with some great games to play in and watch. To top it off the EMU team I was in came second and the other EMU team came joint third, watch out next time Lunis
I got to see the freestyle competition for the first time, I always seem to miss it, and it was really good – well done. I didn’t see the trials competition again though, if only there was more time.
On Sunday a group of us went to Filey Brig, which is a quarter mile rocky outcrop that’s exposed at low tide, for a Muni/trials ride and had a fantastic time. Then it was on to the beach for a ride in the sea and some games of gladiators and sumo on the sand.
Wooo! yeah BUC was the best it also was my first (defently not my last) thanks to all who organised it an stuff

I have to disagree (sorry Damien). It wasn’t a flop at all.
I heard somebody comment that organising unicyclists is like herding cats.
And finally, if next year is promising to be a hell of a lot better, does this mean that you’re going to organise it.
I would imagine that all such conventions have their problems. I distinctly remember a total lack of beginner’s workshops last year. We turned up religiously for both of them, but nobody came to teach us. The workshops this year were ace.
I’d love to know what constitutes ‘a flop’? I’ve been to 5 BUC’s and a Eurocycle and can honestly say that this BUC was far from a flop!!
Reading everyone else’s bad points, it sounds as though you must be talking about the rain!!! One thing I can honestly say about BUCs and unicycle conventions in general… “Things don’t always run to plan and to schedule” and it’s inevitable that there’ll be technical hitches along the way.
Incidentally, I’m curious to know how many other unicycling conventions you’ve been to?
Steve ( in disbelief that someone thinks it was a flop)
