Had a little accident on a mountain bike last night out at the trails. The one second I take off my helmet to try something, I eat it nasty and break V2 in my neck. I’ll be out for 8 weeks minimum.
Sorry Harper, couldn’t get any pictures… but here’s the video.

Jeez, Adam! What a nasty fall. Those bike frames are dangerous the way they tie you up in a fall. Hope you’re OK.
Re: Broke my neck last night
Holy $hit adam! I hope you’re okay! John told me you got hurt, damn… get well
soon. that’s an order.

Re: Broke my neck last night
Ouch!
Take it easy and obey the doctor’s orders.
What will you be doing for the 8+ weeks?
Doug
Re: Broke my neck last night
Man, that’s a real bummer. I hope all goes well with your healing. Eat well, sleep a lot and don’t have any headbanging contests.
Take care bro,
John
That sucks. I hope you’ll be okay. Get well soon. Damn those 2 wheel monsters…
i know how you feel on a incredably smaller scale, I’ve smashed my self up a uncontable mount of time on my bike and like once or twice on my uni, its kinda embarrasing,
Aaron
Re: Broke my neck last night
Owww, that looked like it really hurt!
So, what is the “standard” treatment for a broken V2 in the neck? Will you
need to wear a neck brace?
Did you drive to the hospital or did paramedics take you (I’m assuming you
went to a hospital?)
Were you immediately aware of the serious nature of your injury?

two answers
first to michael: he walked away from the accident [though in pain, mind you. and] though in hindsight i dunno if we should have let him. i hope it didn’t complicate his situation at all.
and secondly to unicyco: if you have a program on your computer capable of handling windows media files [microsoft windows media player springs to mind] then let the browser download all that gibberish, click .file. then .save as. then chose a name [ouch.wmv should work] and location. they browse to that location and open the file.
glad adam’s hangin in there and
that he didn’t try to do it himself,
John M
[get well soon, punk.
i need a riding buddy]
I got up not knowing how serious it was. Just felt like I hit my head real hard, no jolts of pain so I knew it wasn’t my spinal cord. I met up with my dad about 15 minutes after it happened and he took me to the ER. Got some X-rays, and my cat scanned. Basically our hospital sucks here in Port Charlotte so they transfered me up to Lee about 30 minutes away. They’ve got a really good neurosurgeon team up there. They thought they were going to have to operate the night I got in, but I guess I did a good job of breaking it. When I hit I broke it straight through v2, and it actually lined itself up in place after the fall. If all goes well the bones will fuse back together. I’ll know in a month how well things are going. If they’re going shitty I’ll end up in a halo. So for the next 2 months I’ll be stuck in my house. Can’t drive, can’t work, can’t do a damn thing. Lots of video game playing, movie watching, and I guess typing on here when I feel like sitting at the computer for a few minutes. A few people have e-mailed me for my address, so here it is if you want to send cards or rations.

Yikes, that musta hurt. I feel for ya, I’m out for 8-12wks, but I’d rather have my broken ankle than a broken neck!
Get well soon…
it coulda been worse…you could’ve broken your helmet as well!
Take care, get well, and remember that twice as many wheels doesn’t make it half as hard.
That looked bad. Hope it mends OK.
There seems to be a problem when Unicyclist get injured as they don’t know what to do with them selves, how about you make a list of “things to do while recuperating”.
Of course the first thing would be “to make a list of things to do while recuperating”
Cheers, Gary
time to catch on all the reading u’ve been threatening to do
glad u could walk away from it
heal well
Man tough luck. But I’m also glad you’re ok. Here’s hoping the recovery is uneventful.
RE: Broke my neck last night
Ouch is most defiantly the word… plus several others no suitable for
public viewing. Get well soon dude.

Yeouchhh!! Very sorry about your fall, but glad the bones lined up and recovery prospects are good. Take care of yourself! We’ll be thinking of you. Let’s all ride one for Adam.
Jerry
Eeeehhh, looks nasty, I really hope you have a painless recovery.
Get loads of funny books, videos etc. A few weeks of inactivity would really get me down.
I had a similar fall off my bike a few years back when I felt a crack in my neck. I got up and was deaf in one ear. After getting to hospital they clamped my neck in a brace and cured my deafness almost straight away. How? Simple; they cleaned the big lump of mud out of my ear:o
Get well soon!
