British Unicycle Convention RIP ??

At last years British Unicycle Convention it was decided that this year the
convention would be organised by Hackney and it would probably be sometime in
May. It now looks like this will not happen. Some of the Hackney hockey team
have moved away recently and in particular James Bentley who was leading the
organisation has just got a new job in Manchester.

I was at a Juggling convention in York a couple of weeks ago and met up with the
organisers of this years British and Eupopean Juggling Conventions and there was
a suggestion that we might attach ourselves to one of those rather than trying
to set something up specifically for Unis. The BJC is a bit close (over Easter
weekend) but the EJC ( in Edinburgh in 3rd to 8th August ) is quite an
interesting suggestion as they have booked the whole of Meadowbank stadium for a
week so there would be a good track as well as an area for hockey etc. and Roger
Davies and the DCJ are already organising a Muni event for them.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Do you want a separate convention?

Do you want to organise it?

Do you care?

If you have been to previous British Conventions and didn’t go last year, why
not? Was there something about them you didn’t like? In that case what would
make you want to go again?

All comments welcome… Well, nearly all.

I personally wouldn’t like to see it die out again but numbers have been
dropping each year and we need to get some more new people involved and maybe
going back with one of the juggling conventions is a possible way of doing that.

Is there anybody out there… except,

Jon ?

Jonathan Marshall wrote about combining the British Unicycle Convention with the
European Juggling Convention.

The EJC is taking place in Edingurgh, Scotland August 3-8. I just wanted to
point out that this convention starts the day after UNICON IX ends. Hint hint,
nudge nudge.

If an actual unicycle convention will be there, it’s enough to make me take even
more days off from work to be there. In other words, if people choose to do it
that way, I will do my best to be there.

Sorry, can’t help with the organization, I’m already working on a
convention or two…

Jonathan Marshall and an infinite number of monkeys and typewriters will
eventually write:

Only the HUGE hangover I had on the Saturday at Brockworth!

Hope that’s within limits!
