In the next few weeks, Unicycle.com will start selling a system for attaching
brakes to unicycles (that is, for attaching the brake lever to the seat; you
still need to weld brake bosses onto the forks).

Essentially the setup consists of something that looks like standard bike seat
rails, with a short tube in the front that the brake lever clamps to. The system
is designed for the Roger Davies Carbonfibre seat or the Miyata seat (there is a
slight difference in seat curvature between these two seats and it is
specifically shaped for the carbonfibre one, but works for the Miyata too). I’ve
used this system for about a year now and it is simple and works well.

There are a couple of other reasons for using this thing besides
attaching brakes:

  1. It allows you to replace your crappy chrome seatpost with a good bike
seatpost, including any seatpost shock (if it fits in your frame)
  2. You can now put a Miyata or Carbonfibre seat on any unicycle, because
seatposts of any diameter can be used.
  3. The rails are much stronger than the welded attachment on many
    unicycle seats.

Cheers,

Kris.
