i did almost the whole merit badge on my 24 dx and i did the 50 on my bike. but when i turned it in they said they will half to talk to the head scout master about me doing most of it on a unicycle it is called the cycling merit badge not BIcycle merit badge!
They teach hate (of gays and lesbians).
I hope you can loosen them up a bit with your unicycling!
If they don’t give it to you, demand they make a merit badge for unicycling!
The National Unicycling Society will sue them, otherwise!
And we’ll all sign a petition and picket their Jam Ber eee with unicycles!
Ha thanks for support that really made me mad it is the last eagle required merit badge I need. I am taking one to national jamborie.
how can they not give you a medal if you do the required stuff in a more difficult way? thats like giving someone too much money for food and they refuse to give you the damn food!
Hang in there Know, fight the good fight and fight it in a nice way.
I’m sure wiser heads will prevail eventually, make sure you don’t behave in a way that make them think less of you (and unicyclists in general) along the way.
Let us know how it goes.
No pun intended?
If you had ridden a bike, but rode a wheelie the entire way, would that have counted?
they are still talking about it
It’s because unicycling is gay:p
Where is national jamborie this year?
Would you like an assembly of unicyclists carrying protest signs?
I took my uni to the 2010 National Jamboree. That was a bit of a hassle, but it was completely worth it, as all of the staff said I could ride it.
It was held in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, and it was awesome. We got to tour D.C. and Philly for a week before Jambo, and the had the best time at the Jamboree.
thats funny i asked about a unicycling badge recently and they said they didnt have one so im going to do the same as you. keep us updated on how this goes down
haha i just got my cycling merit badge on my muni
haha i just got my fire starting merit badge using a propane torch!
Anderson, one of the founders of Taboo and the group’s only remaining member, stays true to form as an Atlanta bad boy with his latest project, “Gay Merit Badges.” The project was partly conceived in response to the 2000 Supreme Court decision against James Dale, which effectively sanctioned the Boy Scouts of America’s practice of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. So gay males seeking badges of merit now have a place to go (to wit: www.gaymeritbadges.com). The badges are designed by the artist and fabricated from satin with embroidery in Cortona, Italy. The personages on the badges include Fairy, Drama Queen, Gay Jock, Muscle Queen, and Size Queen, among many others.
What is everybody’s problem?
I have been in Boy Scouts for 7 years, and I have not heard or read anything to do with discrimination in that time.
So there are those few creeper scoutmasters, but every club/sport/society has those!
I honestly can’t believe you aren’t aware of the blatant discrimination of the Boy Scouts of America towards homosexuals. A gay man cannot be a scoutmaster in a troop. They are concerned about sexual abuse, apparently.
Frankly I don’t like it much, it’s one of the biggest disagreements I have with the BSA. Yet I remain a Life Scout.
On a lighter note, I did the Cycling MB on my 36er and they were fine with it. No disagreements or anything. After all, it is Cycling merit badge, not Bicycling. The main point of the merit badge is to teach you some maintenance and get you doing something active, that you enjoy. Errm… wait. Unicycles fit all the criteria. You learned bike maintenance, but did the rides on a unicycle which is more difficult. Far as I’m concerned you should have the badge.
Any news yet? Did they finally come to a conclusion? You can always bring it up to your Council or District.
Congrats!
Wait a second, you rode fifty miles within eight hours on a muni? Was this on or off road, and what size muni?
You haven’t heard about the discrimination against unicycles for the cycling merit badge? You think only creepy scout masters discriminate against unicycles? Open your eyes!
Yes, because I am currently doing the cycling badge on my uni, and my troop leaders are all for it!
I realize this thread is pretty much done, but I just wanted to put this out there – with some effort we could get a unicycling merit badge in the works. After all, they have plenty of really stupid/pointless merit badges as it is. Basketry, honestly?
Getting a Uni merit badge would be a good way to get more riders too.
