I was saddened to hear this news. Brad Delp was only 55, and so far the cause of death has not been determined. Boston is one of my all-time favorite bands.
Sad news. Heard some Boston on the radio as I was driving around today. I like the Boston sound.
They are/were my all-time favorite bands as well. I’ll never forget the time I saw them in concert. I had 13th row tickets. A show I’ll never forget.
Brad Delp rest in peace.
Sad news, Boston has always been one of my fav’s
I hate to post just to say “me too”, but…
This is indeed sad news. Boston is one of my all-time favorite bands. I like the Boston guitar sound, but the main reason I like Boston so much is Brad Delp’s singing. I just bask in his magnificent harmonies – it’s one of the most beautiful sounds on Earth. Rest in peace, man with the golden voice. And thank you.
The home page on Boston’s official web site is a memorial page at the moment, with no links to the rest of the site.
Here is a link to Brad’s page on the Boston site. I found it via Google.
For crying out loud people, get a grip! He’s not dead for gods sake, he’s faking it for publicity!
-My final post…
Elvis…maybe, Anna Nicole…maybe, Brad…never.
I’m sorry too for him and his family and friends.
But I never thought much of Boston. I found their sound to be rather cheesy.
The first Boston album was practically glued to my turntable in the late seventies. RIP Brad.
This is a good time to bring this up.
As good as any. But for the record, if there are any family or friends of the family frequenting these boards, I do apologize. And, for what it’s worth, my wife is a big fan.
I was just kidding. Actually, for some reason I never in my life heard anyone say anything negative about Boston (that’s why the remark jumped out at me in the first place). It stupidly never occurred to me that someone out there might not like the sound, especially since they are my sublime cellar door.
Anyway, I’m sure he and his family and fellow band members can separate the art from the artist.
I had a friend that would gripe every time that a Boston song came on. He hated them because according to him they over used the “clap” machine.
Their first album was a masterpiece beginning to end. I personally thought they were great until they came out with the album with the song “Amanda” on it. I saw them on that tour at Alpine Valley (where Stevie Ray Vaughn last played…but that’s another story) and decided to leave early to beat the crowd and I was sick of the new album. Big mistake! I was already in Milwaukee, WI and a guy comes on the radio and says "For all you just leaving the Boston concert…"They ended up playing all their original material for an encore (an hour and a half encore!) Ouch!
Rest In Peace Brad
Another favorite band we’ll never hear live again…
Yes, I am as saddened by this news as I was when I heard that Freddie Mercury had died. He was FABULOUS!
When someone creates something so wonderful, so profoundly beautiful – something that touches your heart so deeply and enriches your life, you mourn their passing, even though you don’t know them personally. There is only one other band whose music has touched my life so deeply and for such a long time.
Sadly, I never made it to a Boston or Queen concert.
I knew there was something besides unicycling I had in common with “most” of you. Of course jjuggle and I will always have donuts. I haven’t gone out of my way to listen to Boston in a long while, but in the 80’s I didn’t go a day without listening to them.
They were one of my favorite bands for a long time. They came out with a unique sound for the time. The first album was probably my favorite. I saw them live once, I think it was '73. They had an ‘off’ night, unfortunately. Brad just wasn’t hitting the high notes. Sammy Hagar warmed up for them and he blew 'em away. After that, I just kinda figured that Boston was a studio band. Still, I liked their music and their albums. RIP Brad Delp.
Delp’s death was suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Here’s a Yahoo! News article.
So sad to lose someone due to suicide.
I just now read the same news article! It reminds me of another recent celebrity suicide of comedian Richard Jeni. According to his girlfriend, who called 911, he “apparently” he shot himself…in the face, and died about one hour later in the hospital.
To me that seems a bit suspicious as it would seem really unusual, even verging on unbelievable that someone would try killing themselves in such a manner.
A self-inflicted gunshot to the head or even putting the barrel in your mouth is quite common, but not in the face. That just doesn’t seem very plausible.
