BMW2000 Trail Update

This year the Saturday morning ride is planned for Puddletown Forest, just a 15
minute drive from base at the Inside Park, and I have a new(er) van to carry all
the unicycles! I am working on 2 routes, one shorter and less hilly for those of
a more leisurely disposition, which intersect at a couple of excellent places
where hopefully we can synchronise arrival times for each group. One place is a
woodland dirtjumping type area that has been developed by local MTBers with
berms, drop offs, ramps etc., the other is a big downhill known as Skijump…

All the riding is within a self contained forest with no road work, most of the
trails being stone or gravel based with plenty of technical downhill singletrack
through trees (or even around trees). However, there is good riding for ALL
abilities. The car park is easily reachable from all points for anyone feeling
too weary to continue :frowning:

On a cultural note, nestling in one corner of the forest is Thomas Hardy’s
cottage at Bockhampton, so we will be riding through terrain that inspired such
works as Far From The Madding Crowd, The Woodlanders etc. ALSO just 4 miles up
the road is “The Martyrs’ Museum” at Tolpuddle, well worth a visit for
non-muniers. I’ll bet you didn’t realise Muni could be such a culturally
improving activity

Following the torrential rain we had last week I thought I would check the
routes I have planned for rideability in the wet; good news, all rideable and
very little mud. Even the deep puddles had hard bottoms (I could do with one
of those!)

See you next month! for more BMW 2000 info go to

:frowning:

I’m so deeply sad. No BMW for me this year. We have a very important show to do
for a big company around here that weekend. Well, in fact, it’s only friday,
but that’s already enough. I really tried hard to have this weekend off, but
all of the group were needed. So all of you BMWers, I wish you a very nice
weekend: good weather, fine tracks (I’m sure, Jerry did a good job). Maybe I
can come in 2001.

Re: BMW2000 Trail Update

Given the sensitive nature of Longbridge and such, wouldn’t it be a nice gesture
if we dropped BMW and called it something else like Brit Muni W or something.

I think we’d all be upset if Voltige bought out DM engineering and then closed
down the works unit in Christchurch.

DM is a fine example of British Engineering as was Austin and Morris (Morris
made the worlds first affordable peoples car, while hitler was still writing in
a prison in the late twenties.) Rover is all that was left of these visionaries.

So please show some respect to British Engineers.

Out in California I’m very far from the fray, but I like the BMW name. It’s not
like you are promoting a car company, or otherwise connected in any way to them.
It’s just an easy acronym to remember, and still evokes thoughts of sleek
refinement even if the car company is in bad political favor.

Just an opinion from someone far away…

The proper name is indeed the British Muni Weekend (have you checked the webpage
yet - http://www.vimes.u-net.com/bmw.html - come along for some great muni
riding!) - feel free to abbreviate it however you wish. I intend continue using
a BMW as the TLA for brevity - why can BMW not have positive connotations in the
unicycling world (as an event rather than a company)? After all, we do prefer 1
wheel to 4 don’t we?

The works unit? Do you mean Dave’s workshop? (it isn’t a large scale operation)

No distrespect was intended (and no complaints were made when the name was
coined over a year ago - I’d rather not dabble in politics about an
abbreviation!)

By the way - Goodwin’s Law…
