im heading to the BJC2k, and im coming from the states… and im going with
someone that doesnt know how to ride a uni, nor does this person have one…

Congratulations! Great feeling when you realise that those things that line the
street weren’t put there just to help you onto your unicycle, even though they
even put lights on the top so that you can see them.

That is ok, jugglers are ok.

Yes I would bring it if you have the space, you will learn a lot if you do bring
it. If you don’t you will probably be able to borrow one anyway, just ask.

Security is generally not an issue at BJC. Theft is not common (not unknown
either, but rare) I leave my uni’s in the main hall all day and haven’t had a
problem. The UK jugglers are incredibly friendly and welcoming. From what I have
heard of the IJA conventions you will notice that these are a lot more relaxed.

Yep see you then…

I’m glad I can’t remember exactly how long it took me to learn to freemount.

I went from the US to EJC/BUC '98, and I brought my uni. It was heavy, but
traveling with it (dismantled, in a garment bag) was only marginally
inconvenient, and I enjoyed having it. It’s one more thing to carry, but most of
the time, you don’t carry it, you stick it on a shelf on the plane or train.
It was worth it for me. I did ride it a bunch at the convention, doing MUni
races, hockey, and a treasure hunt, but what I most enjoyed was just riding
around the city, exploring and getting to and from the convention from my flat.
I doubt you’ll feel you have to keep an eye on it though. A few things
sometimes go missing, but juggling conventions are generally pretty low-theft.
Most people just leave their stuff (including unicycles) laying around and it’s
not a problem.
