Just got a call from the Toronto Bike Network who informed me I finally have my very own bike locker. I have been on the waiting list for 7 months. Now I can finally store both my N36 and my fixed gear bike downtown with piece of mind! Anyone have experience with these?
thats great! whats a bike locker?
well I went over a few months a ago just to check it out from the outside. Its basically a big rectangular box that looks relatively impenetrable. It will be great since my school is downtown in an area where it is not smart to lock you bike up, especially if it looks like it is worth a lot. It will just be super handy. I can even store my books or helmet or lunch in there if I don’t feel like carrying it all around town.
so you use it just like a bike rack except your stuff is still there when you come back? I’ve seen them on station platforms but never on the street.
Haha yeah exactly, this one is at city hall.
I’ve never heard of 'em, but they sound sweet.
Lucky!
How much, or is it free?
ahh nice bike dude how much does it weigh? is it fixed wheel?
Not sure how much it weighs. Yes it is a fixed wheel, and so is my unicycle!! haha.
ten bucks a month
here is the website
They look plastic Hmmm . . . Sawzall + nobody lookin = free bike.
Ok ok I’m just kidding, I would never steal a bike!
The Seattle metro offers bike lockers at their park & rides. $50 key deposit but no monthly fee. I’m not sure what the waiting period is. Downtown Seattle has a BikeStation.
I’d like to see the urban condos offer bike lockers. I’ve asked at a couple and they don’t have bike lockers. They really should (be forced to) offer bike lockers in their parking area for the tenants. It’s not convenient to have a bike(s) at a condo otherwise.
I just bought a Kryptonite NY Fahgettaboudit U-lock with a Christmas gift card. A beefy lock for when I park the bike around the University of Washington area or other parts of Seattle. I have also filled the allen bolt heads on the seatpost with fingernail polish to discourage theft of my saddle.
The nice thing about a bike locker is that you can leave things like your bike lights, cycle computer and other accessories on the bike when you lock it up. If you lock up out in the open you have to take all of the easily removed accessories off the bike and take them with you.
These things are great!
Not only is it a fab place to leave your bike, but if you put a blanket in there, it becomes a place to crash out after a night on the beer!
No more expensive taxi rides home!
Put me down for one.
Woot!
Funniest thing I’ve heard in a while . (and I bet someone has actually done it).
Bahaha. I think it is 6 feet five inches deep so that accommodates most of us
