It’s pretty rare that I find what I am looking for by using the search feature on the forums. I can never determine if AND or OR work, or quotes, etc.
I find using google to search the forums works better for me.
For those who aren’t aware, you can do google searches on a specific site.
Like this:
<a href="http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=site%3Aunicyclist.com%2Fforums+“knee+pain”>site:unicyclist.com/forums “knee pain”

I can find everything with the sites search. Specially when I use the advanced search, then it becomes really easy, even when im tracking down info from 1995.
Or, use the new search box at the top of the page.

I think it’s stupid how you have to click on the arrow next to search then go to advanced search. If you use the normal search it finds like 100s of threads. I think Gilby should update it and make it so when you use the normal search, it searches the thread title for more accurate results.

I fairly new here, so maybe there’s some history I’m missing. But it seems like one guy just gave his opinion/suggestion and he’s getting stereotyped, ganged up on, and words are being put in his mouth.
The site may be free, but why can’t people contribute their ideas to make it better? If you don’t like the idea, why not just say exactly that.
It is just because there have been a lot of people demanding things from Gilby in the past. Considering that people only contribute (either with good posts or monetarily) to this site if they want to and it is free for all to use we really are in no position to demand anything.
Everyones suggestions are welcome but it rubs people the wrong way when Mr. Gilbertson upgrades the site adding a very nice feature and then someone complains that it is stupid that it is not exactly how he wants it.
If Unisykolist decided to post “hey it would be cool if you could automatically go to the advanced search” people might have reacted a bit more positively.
