Hi all. I’ve been looking at ways to reduce weight of a trials unicycle (one not really meant to be sat upon). I looked at the saddle and thought all that thick padding was kinda excessive. I also looked at the KH saddle, and thought about how inadaquate it was for seat out. Then it hit me. Why have all that excessive padding and crap when all you need is a pair of handles (one for seat out, one for seat in), an innertube, some duct tape, and a seatpost. I think the best trials saddle would just be a pair of small, hollow parrallel bars, with a handle on the front. Also an innertube on top for safety. That ought to be flex free, weigh less than a pound, be at least half the price of a carbon fiber seat and be great for jumping. Has anyone tried this? Also would anyone have any suggestions for the design? Just wondering, so as to be prepared with a project next time I’m on the welding equipment.
There would really be no sense in going any less than a stock miyata seat with some kinport handles.
That seat is small enough to not get in the way, it has nice ledges for seat in/out tricks, is fairly light, and you can ride to your trials course, even if it’s 10 KM’s away.
That would be a good idea, if you only use it for trials. IT wouldn’t work for anything else.
The KH saddle is best for commuting and MUni, and the Miyata is the best for trials. In my humble opinion.
Surely that assumes you do all of your trials stuff seat out, doesn’t it? I certainly don’t… riding skinnies or rolling hops would be a bit of a bother if you can’t sit down.
I’ve got a KH seat on mine, I am very happy with it.

CAN’T SEE IT SORRY
I CAN NOT SEE IT WORKING HOW WOULD YOU ROLING HOP AND RIDE FROM TRIALS PLACE TO A NEW PLACE? SORRY BUT NO
You guys make a good point about riding skinnies and rolling hops. Until about a week ago I’ve done all my trials exclusively seat in and now I’m beginning to seat out hop. I too, must ride to my trials location, so all your points are truly valid. Who’d wanna ride a mile seat out? Thanks for the advice.
HI,
i would buy your saddle. I ride a carbon fibre seat base without any padding. Works fine, I hate these fat saddles.

Yuck.
I think it must be a German kind of thing, because I have seen Chrisitans Trails seat and it is the same!
How do your pants or shorts hold up? Don’t the sharp edges hurt your fingers?
Hi,
I do not hop seat out. So I only hold the front handle while doing trials. I put a kind of flexible tube (or hose or whatever the name of this thing is) on both sides of the saddle, so that there are no sharp edges anymore. Works really good.
I wear cycling-shorts and longer trousers over the cycling shorts (we would call it bermuda shorts, do not know if it is the same in English). At the beginning I had problems because the saddle really hurts my upper thigh, but now my skin is innured and it do not hurt anymore.
sorry, my english is not that good,
