Here is my muni on our rack. It is not the exact same rack as the one I linked you to, because my model is discontinued, but any rack with the same strap system will work.
Hmmm, looks like I may be a day late and dollar short. :o
I’ll take a picture of my Muni next to my brother’s Downhill bike. I just did a 450km trip with it on the back of the car and it was still there! I’m will put it back on monday when we will leave and I’ll take a picture then.
what down hill bike does he have? i had a demo 8
He has a Devinci RC 2011. He didn’t used it much yet, the season just started but we’re here for a competition. I’m here to see if I can ride these huge mountains a little bit in the unused trails.
dang! sexy bike.
Not to derail this thread, but Demo 8’s are pretty sexy too! There’s a few of them in my DH crew.
I’ve got a Sinister R9 Shorty. (hence my name )
/Thread derail off
rederal: I loved my demo8 but DH mtb is expensive! close to 1000 for 2 seasons. Pure DH uni is so much better
36er on a Swagmen XTC2
Thanks to everyone who shared pictures and advice. I truly appreciate it. I did tons of research online (know more about bike racks than I ever wanted to) and wheeled my kit into several different b*ke shops (cannot stress sticking your wheel in enough displays) until a culmination of two months planning (getting the hidden hitch installed) when this kid said why “strap it to a hanging style rack” when you can “sit it on a platform style rack”? I thought max wheel size for platform racks was 29" but the 36er fits nicely. The “frame grip arms” push down (hopefully not too hard as to untrue things) to hold the other end of the wheel quite securely. It did great at 70mph (leap of faith) all the way home. I’m quite pleased with it and it only cost $199 (that Kuat is nice but it’s $450)! Loading and unloading is super quick and easy!

This is a nice rack, will carry a 36er and up to four munis, or a couple bikes, or one bike and two munis.
It’s heavy, but it works well, way better stability than the hanging racks.
My wife and I have one and hated it for bikes. Took your advice and we can fit both our trials unis in one Thule Big Mouth skull and cross bones style. The only problem we’ve found so far is the straps aren’t long enough to secure the wheel and the two seat posts will rub themselves raw if there is no padding to separate them. Will keep you posted about how well this holds up.
CHEERS!
Any difference really between the Thule

and something like this
which is a lot cheaper?
I have an adult mountain bike, a 36, a 24 muni and a 20" kids bike.
I don’t have one; I am in the market as well. However, it looks very similar in design. I need to transport a bicycle and 2 unicycles on vacation in 3 weeks. I need to make a decision very shortly! This type is as the top of the list.
Gonna go with the Thule. Looks like the Allen is a bit shaky.
Saris Freedom
I’ve had a Saris Freedom for about a year now. I’ve only used it a few times but when I do put it to work it is easy to load and everything is secure.
I’ve had a 36 and a 29 on it; or a 36 and a road bike.
You’re not going to hang 3 or 4 unis off of it but it works great for my needs.
It took me 2 returned racks before I settled on this one.
I have this one:
It’s steel, heavy, and bullet-proof. Fits both 1 1/4" and 2" receivers. (I use the 2".)
Works for me. I use it fairly frequently when I take the family bikes along with my 36" to the bike paths.
Anybody use the Thule Parkway on an Odyssey? Gonna pull the trigger; it seems the best priced. How many bikes unis can I expect to fit on it? I see some of the platform racks, but for 4 bike ones they are very expensive. Is it realistic to carry 3 or 4 bikes/unis on the 4 bike carriers anyway?
We have an Odyssey and I use the

. The Vertex is a very solid rack; however, I have one gripe…it doesn’t lock on to the car unless you purchase a separate lock from Thule. To secure it to my cars, I purchased a chain and a Master lock from Home Depot and laced it through the hinge on the bottom of the rack and to the hitch. This seems more secure than the rack lock from Thule and costs a lot less. Other than that, this is a awesome rack!
I forgot to add that the ability for this rack to lean away from the back door of the Odyssey is an nice and almost necessary feature.
Does the parkway not allow easy access?
