Best Beginner Unicycle

Hi, Everybody. I am new to unicycling and I do not have one yet so I want to know what would be the best bike. My basic riding will happen on the sidewalk and on a mild MTB trail. I was thinking about the QU-AX CROSS 24" or something else in that price range.
And by the way how good must your balance be to ride one? would you be if you can ride a normal bike hands free?

I cannot ride a normal bike hands free but can uni forever, so riding a bike hands free means NOTHING.
If your going on trails a 24 would be good, also for the footpath.
As my knowledge of unis anf their quality isnt too great thats my input.
Peace.

Welcome to the Unicycle revolution!

As far as your first uni, make sure its something you don’t mind getting banged up. During the learning process, you will bang it up a few times learning. I started with an ebay special, and upgraded to a Nimbus II. I wish i had gotten the Nimbus when I started, but I didn’t know a lick about unicycling and was going in this blindly. Get something that appeals to you. There will be many opinions on which is the ‘best’ starter uni, but in the end, its your decision and your ride.

As far as riding with no hands on that darn two-wheel contraption, throw that out. This is totally different. The basic concept of uni is to keep the wheel under you. You lean forward, you pedal to keep the tire under you, you go forward. Same for going back. Just don’t forget you have to pedal, or you will fall off.

If you fall in front of the uni, you are leaning too far forward. If it shoots out in front of you, you are leaning too far back. With practice, and patience, you will get your sense of balance on a uni and riding in no time.

Again, pick the uni that appeals to you. Don’t be afraid to bang it up, as it will happen time and time again. I still bang mine every now and then.

So does that make a unicycle an abnormal bike? I don’t understand how people can get into unicycling, use the word UNICYCLing then call it a BIKE. No personal offence… just that it happens a lot :frowning:

Well the unicycle concept/idea did come from the penny farthing which is a bike somewhat.

But still no reason to call it a bike :stuck_out_tongue: (bi being two)

Well, would this be a bike then. Maybe not but it resembles 1 in some ways.

Yes, it has two wheels - is a bike

So you realise it’s 2 DX unicycles attached together.

patronizing
Well due to the fact that I saw that thread before you, yes I do.

2 x 1 = 2 = bi!

hah

Wow what a threadjack!
Doesn’t a bike have to have a chain?

 Like this and i apologize for the threadjacking.

LOOK a tricycle:smiley:

PS srry for this severe thread jack

and for the question, riding a bike w/o hands is NO help at all. Unicycling will take loads of practice, time and patience. For a learner, i would reccomend a Torker LX, in either a 20" or a 24". You can always upgrade to a Muni later on. Happy Unicycling :sunglasses:
