best all round unicycle

Someone said earlier that the 24" with 150s is what you want. I agree completely. I started on a United XL trainer. It really was better than it sounds. It said specifically that it was for riders 215lbs+, which I was at that time. It had a United frame, Viscount seat which worked really well for me except there was no handle, Sun BFR rim and a 2.125 freestyle/street tire. Plastic pedals, which I replaced with some kinda-beartraps, which got replaced shortly after destroying the cage, with Primos.

The cranks were kinda interesting. I bent them when I was first learning to hop, which was shortly after I learned how to ride. I didn’t do anything too drastic to them, just tweaked 'em a bit. Rode like that for three months until I bent the left one away from the uni about 45 degrees during a biffed drop. Took it to the bike shop, where they not quite straightened it. Six months later, riding it bent the whole time, I let a visitor to our club ride it and he bent the other one real bad with his horrible hopping technique. When my new cranks came in the mail, I wanted to see what those old cranks could really handle without breaking. With both cranks shot, meaning the square taper on the left one was getting rounded out and both cranks bent, I (210 pounds) landed an 18 inch drop (high for me at that time) with no damage. So those cheapies were rather indestructable, I thought. Moral of the story? Get Euros right up front and avoid the whole mess.

Wow, that was long. Anyway, that uni gets my vote for “highly versatile.” Of course, my new Summit is very nice as well.

You’re in the UK right?

On unicycle.uk.com is listed a freephone number- Roger is really good at dealing with any questions you may have and I can recommend giving him a ring.

For seats I can recomend a metal seat base and a cover held on by bolts rather than glue- this will allow you to do a easy airseat conversion by replacing the foam with a lightly inflated 20" inner tube and sticking the valve through a hole drilled through the base.

As for the uni- my vote for the ultimate GPU (General Purpose Uni) is a Nimbus 24 x 3" muni- I’ve used it for off roading, commuting and general riding, it’s cheap, tough, versatile and comfortable.

Wouldn’t the best “all round” unicycle be a sphere?

hahah harper that made me giggle.

24’’ Torker DX!!! An awesome all around Uni! And for the price you can’t beat it!

yes but that one is £39

what about this?
