After my friend visted and was riding my uni, the right crank is lop
sided. OSmethig is bent I am not sure if it’s the crank or just te peadl
axel but you can feel it when you ride. It’s just an out of the box deluxe
miyata, is tehre an easy fix other then new parts?
I know this sounds dumb but check to see if the pedal is screwed in tightly, the left pedal on my uni used to unscrew itself before i changed the pedals and if it’s just out of the box the pedals may not have been screwed in tightly, thus when ridden they will work ther way loose.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a pedal bend, but I’ve seen plenty of
cranks bend. Even splined cranks (DM and Profile) I’ve seen bent. As for
your Miyata, the professional answer is to buy a new crank. But the
scrapper answer is to put the pedal in a vice and torque the wheel the
right way so that the crank bends back to shape. Or just put your feet way
out on the pedal that has the bent crank and hop hard. Make sure you are
bending back to neutral, and not farther from it.

Also check to make sure the crank is on tight. I often see unicycles with
loose cranks. I also see pedals that are cross-threaded–stripping the
threads in the crank.

I have actually bent many pedals (welgo freefalls) and the bearings have
popped out. When this happened it made a disgusting screeching noize, if
your uni is making this sound, you may want to check that out. Hope this
helps in any way.

Is it me, or am I dreaming? Are all of Klaas Bil’s postings doubled?
What’s causing that? No disrespect to Klaas Bil.
Keep it up.

I haven’t heard this before, so I think it’s you. Has this always been the
case for you?

Uh, I’d like to go back to the original thread for a sec…
Earlier today, I was brazenly attacking a series of angular speed bumps with my 29" Pashley, somehow hit one wrong, and landed hard on my left hip. Figures my brand-new armor doesn’t cover that area, so I got a big, lovely blue welt. Even with the naturally occuring 10mm of extra hip padding most of us females are blessed with. : (
As I rode the half mile out of the park, I noticed something was definitely out of wack on the left side of the uni, even though it hadn’t fallen THAT hard. On closer inspection, it seems that the left crank was bent ever so slightly closer to the frame by about 3-4 mm where the pedal attaches. Is this enough to make such a noticeable difference when riding? (The wheel and pedals seem fine).
Is it worth the trouble to ask a friendly bike shop to bend it back? Should it be taken off the uni beforehand? Or should I just replace the crank, or spring for better cranks altogether, in preparation for future spills?
Thanks,
Anne
P.S. Can anyone recommend a good brand of hip armor? ; )
sorry Anne, this will be short, but off topic.
Klaas,
Maybe it’s my browser, I just thought I remember in previous postings seeing your postings get duplicated one after the other. If no one else is seeing it, then it is a quirk in my system.
Now, back to Anne.
Keep it up.
Same here, only one at a time.

Jeff Sargeant
maybe its just your shoe
anne, i’d take the unicycle to the bike shop and then after the dudes inspect it, then take it off, my opinion being based on the fact that if it is only bent 4-5mm it’s going to be pretty hard to tell if there’s is nothing to compare it to (as in the way it should be on the unicycle), buying new cranks is up to you. if you feel you can justify a new set, or just like spending money go for it, also remember that bending a crank back will weaken it slightly and it may bend more next time you crash oddly.
on the other topic, i also get doubled responses, but usually only with John Foss post and Oli P’s. sometimes there are like 4-5 posts all the same.
