So im doing an interface design project for my interactive design class at the vancouver film school.
i’ve had the ok to make the interface for www.bedfordunicycles.ca
i figured i do a little research…now i know alot pf people have been wanting a proper website fro, darren for awhile now, so i was wondering what you would like to see implemented?
one last question, if there was a unicycle or product generator would you use it? basically a drag and drop system ( flash based), to see what your new uni could look like.
and finally, add anything in that you want!
thanks for your help guys, and ill keep you posted on the project as it moves along. you can check it out on www.jkohse.wordpress.com (my blog).
I think that a flash based uni-designer would be sweet! Also i think that if the site was a kinda mix of MDC and K1’s site it would be pretty tight. Maybe have the cool layout k1, but with the ability to link to individual products like MDC?
I like Unicycle.coms interface. However, i find them inconsistant with listing things. like sometimes they list the weight and sometimes they don’t. It would be nice if bedford would list all the weights and things, like koxx-one does. It would be nice to have both canadian and american dollars listed.
A unicycle maker thingy would be pretty cool. not entirely necessary, but it would definitely add to it. You should probably work on that, but other things are more important.
I wouldn’t make the whole sight flash like koxx does. I don’t even know why, but i just don’t really like it.
A sponsors page would be cool too.
If I think of anything else ill be sure to tell you.
I like the unicycle generator idea. Probally best aspect of that would be if it said error if a part couldn’t be placed with another part. Such as if you put a 20" frame on a 26" uni and then it would beep and flash red. Of course you would have to go through every part they sell and see if they work together. Maybe when you click complete a character would pop up and do a trick on it. You could have a guy do a gap if you chose a trials uni, a grind down a rail if you chose a street uni, and so on. Well good luck with your website, hope it turns out nice.
I like the UDC website for it’s ease and simplicity. Yes, the Koxx-one site looks cool, but you also want a clean smooth site that doesn’t take a long time to load and all that, so maybe hold off on the flashy grapics a bit?
Personally I really dislike sites like the K1 site.
I prefer a nice simple layout similar to the UDC site.
I think that it would be real nice to be able to put stuff in your shopping cart or whatever and have a compare button. This would be especially nice if things were nice and consistent in the descriptions.
The unicycle generator would be a nice touch but I would give it a low priority.
i see the unicycle generator is kinda just “cool”. i was thinking about having something where you click the product and it will change through all the colors its available in.
I think that the K1 website is pretty sweet but too heavy on the Flash for an every day visit. If you are going to be making a website that you want alot of traffic (traffic usualy means money) to go through then I would avoid having it be flash heavy. I know many websites offer a non flash choice, but I think that you would be better off just going straight for a non flash because it just makes it more of a pain.
Personaly I really like MDC. I like it alot more than UDC, they are really similar but the MDC website just looks more up to date, whereas the colours and the mood on the UDC one is less professional looking.
Another format idea to look at is the Korean UDC. They have their own style to things that has its advantages and disadvantages.
Another uni website that is different is the Japanese one Personaly I like the look but I get annoyed with frames. I think they make the website feel small and cramped and I like a website that takes up the full page.
I don’t know if people in America are used to it, but on UDC US I always have trouble finding a product with the normal menu system. I find myself looking through the ‘‘Intermediate’’ ‘‘Novice’’ ‘‘Expert’’ thing to find a unicycle which annoys me - and I end up having to use the search when I can’t be bothered to type
Personally, UDC UK is my favourite. The menu is nice and efficient to use to find a part, and a lot of the picutres are now available in a bigger size (to click on). Although the K1 site looks nice, it annoys me about the fact that you cannot link to a specific part of their site.
I love the flash aspect of the Koxx website, but sometimes it annoys me because it takes too long to load. However, they definately know how to make things look good, much like their unicycles prove.
Definately go for a simple, well designed, functional website, and I think ,that bit of innovationwith the custom uni will make Bedford’s site one of the best out there.
