Bedford, quality uni?

Hello unicyclists! I’m canadian newbie here, and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good entry level 24" uni. I’ve been looking at a Bedford, from Bedfordunicycles.ca. Does anyone have this uni, and if so, has anyone had any bad experiences with it? Thanks a lot!

P.S. Is Bedfordunicycles.ca still planned to be fully up in a few weeks?

It seems like the site has been opening forever.

Funny, I always thought
bleeding was nature’s way to tell you that you shouldn’t play with razors.

Re: Bedford, quality uni?

Go for it! My Bedford unicycle has worked out great. So far nothing has
broken and everything is still working smoothly. I initially purchased what
would probably be the 24" freestyle uni but have since upgraded the
tube+tire to a 24x2.6 stout (also purchased from Daren Bedford), the seat to
a Miyata air seat (ordered from www.mys-co.com in Japan. It looks as if he’s
selling Miyata seats now too for about the same price though), and the
pedals to a alluminum BMX style pedal from MEC. I rode the stock uni for
quite a while though and it worked very well.

About the seat, the basic Bedford seat is not quite as comfortable as my
Miyata airseat but it is pretty good. However, the Bedford seat is
indestructible which was quite important when I was first learning so I’m
glad I got it first and made the transition later.

That’s where I got mine from, and love it. I just did myself a huge favour, and for $9cdn got a 3 bolt seat clamp instead of the flimsy, seat twisting QR clamp. He’ll probably even throw it on for you on the initial order.

He’s very fast, and very reliable. I love dealing with him. Email him and ask if he has what you want.

the Miata seat is $70, and the Roach seat cover (for air saddle conversion…a must for MUni) is $30

Besides that, Darren’s a heck of a nice guy and great friend to all. He also folds a mean balloon.

Thanks Everyone!

I think it is the unicycle for me! Thanks a lot!

Great unicycle

I got an upgraded 24" mountain uni back in May from Darren and so far it’s held up well and is awesome. I’m not sure what it compares to on the new price list on the website. It has a Alex downhill rim, Suzue hub and such but it was only $375. Maybe the ones on the site have a new kind of frame or thicker tire. But I’d highly recommend a setup from Bedford. I’m about 180lbs and so far the standard cranks and frame have stayed strong through lots of hopping and riding.
Very quick service is a given. Mine arrived in 5 days. (I’m in Edmonton) He ships before you pay.

Re: Bedford, quality uni?

For sure Darren is quick and efficient. I have a 20 inch Bedford waiting
for me at the Post Office for pick up tomorrow… got here in five days…
yup, the little 20 inch is my rainy west coast indoor uni … I’m planning
ahead for those long wet Vancouver winters…
we are lucky to have Darren working with us here in Canada…
also had him send me a new tire for my 24 inch and some alloy pedals…
yummmmm should be good…

The joys of living in Florida, wonderful weather year round. The only problem is findind some nice mountains to blast down… we still manage with some nice mountain bike trails though.
